Suburbs hold the answers to many unanswered questions about urban design, community connectivity, housing affordability and demographic change in the GTA 鈥 factors that collectively affect our region鈥檚 ability to compete in a fast-urbanizing world.听 Reaching a better understanding of what makes suburbs function more effectively 鈥 what some call the search for 鈥済ood density鈥 鈥 is critical because a significant proportion of global urbanization to 2050 will be in increasingly dense, mixed-use suburbs.
鈥溾听is a multi-university project led by the City Institute at 91亚色 studying governance, built form and land use in 12 countries.听听Join principal investigator Professor Roger Keil, researcher Sean Hertel along with members of the Greater Toronto Suburban Working Group, including Glenn Miller from the Canadian Urban Institute, for a lively panel discussion exploring:
- Alternatives to community connectivity that don鈥檛 position transit investment as a 'war on the car'.
- How the lack of affordable housing throughout the region undermines our social fabric.
- A look into the future, will we still refer to the suburbs as no place to grow old?
- The GTA is one economy, has the time has come to stop competing against ourselves?
