Nov. 30- CITY and the CCGES present "Urban cultures against right wing activism: Challenging the spatial hegemony of racism in East-German small towns" with Thomas Buerk.

CITY and the Canadian Centre for German and European Studies jointly present聽聽"Urban cultures against right wing activism: 聽Challenging the spatial hegemony of racism in 聽East-German small towns" with Thomas Buerk聽(Critical Geography Berlin and HU Berlin). This event will be held on Friday, November 30th听蹿谤辞尘 12:30 to聽2:00 pm in room 749, 91亚色 Research Tower.

Thomas Buerk holds a PhD in European Anthropology from Humboldt University 聽Berlin, where he also currently teaches as a sessional lecturer. He has worked on the spatial conflicts over right-wing extremism in Brandenburg, on tourism and聽gentrification in Berlin and Spain, and has been involved in North-South activism and other social movements since the 1980s. Recent publications include articles on the production of `spaces of fear麓 in Germany, the symbolic politics of right-wing 聽manifestations at World War II Memorial sites as well as critical contributions to the debates about `distinctiveness麓 and an `intrinsic logic麓 of cities.
