A heartfelt thanks to all participants for contributing to the success of our City Planning in a Time of Crisis: States, Markets and Democracy event held on Sept 10, 2026 at the CITY Institute. This event was based on two SSHRC-UKRI Knowledge Synthesis teams—Seeing Crisis like a City: Multi-level Governance in Canada and the UK (91ÑÇÉ«, University of Glasgow and University of Toronto) and (Toronto Metropolitan University and Loughborough University)
A very exciting and vibrant dialogue took place between planning professionals, social movement actors and community activists. Many thoughtful and through-provoking insights were shared on a wide range of issues pertaining to: community-based initiatives and local governance, the role of planning and politics in urban development, the strengths and weaknesses of public-private partnerships, how cities can deal with crisis, and much, much more!
