Job description
Under the supervision of Dr. Boran, the Synergies of Planetary Health Research Initiative and Lab RAY student (6 hours per week) will:
• Support the transdisciplinary research of the Synergies of Planetary Health Research Initiative.
• Assist with coordination of the Synergies of Planetary Health Laboratory.
• Support the international data collection and analysis team.
• Support partnership development, correspondence with partners and outreach.
• Support event and workshop organization and communication outputs.
• Support the development and submission of grant applications.
• Assist with filing, record-keeping, and reporting.
Specific research activities the student(s) will be engaged in:
• Create annotated bibliography.
• Write reading reports.
• Participate in coding with the international data collection and analysis team.
• Tabulate data.
• Edit and formatt drafts.
• Correspond with partners and workshop invitees.
Type of research experience the student(s) will receive:
• Critical thinking, project design and design thinking, problem solving, research creativity.
• Professional communication, including international and cross-cultural professional interaction and communication.
• Literature review skills.
• Skills with reading and preparing reports and grey literature.
Type of training and support that will be provided to the student(s) in carrying out these research activities:
• Methodological training on data analysis.
• Subject matter training on planetary health including climate, biodiversity, and adaptation to health impacts of environmental change.
• Training in subject matter (global governance, intergovernmental organizations, local and regional governance, non-profit organizations).
• Regular status meetings with your supervising full-time faculty.
Qualifications
• Current undergraduate 91ɫ student. Applicants from diverse programs of study are encouraged. • Demonstrated interest in environmental governance, global health, and global governance.
• Demonstrated skills and experience with conducting literature reviews.
• Demonstrated knowledge of research methods (quantitative and/or qualitative and/or integrative).
• Demonstrated skills using 91ɫ Library resources, including search engines.
• Demonstrated note-taking, journal-keeping, and filing skills.
• Excellent communication skills: professional written and interactive correspondence, public speaking and presentation.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including international and cross-cultural communication.
• Demonstrated excellent computer skills (word processing, email, database, spreadsheets, forms, and slides; facility with Office 365 Apps). WordPress editing skills are an asset. Social media communication skills are an asset.
• Demonstrated excellent analytic skills for understanding, sorting, and categorizing complex information. Skills and resourcefulness in drawing mind-maps and tabulating information is an asset.
• Demonstrated eagerness to learn, support, and take on initiative.
• Demonstrated organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability and willingness to work both independently and as part of a team with researchers, students, and staff.
