You are warmly invited to join AI4PEP at the UNGA81 Science Summit for several high‑impact online sessions on community‑driven innovation, ethical AI governance, advanced diagnostic technologies, and dengue early‑warning tools across the Global South and ASEAN+.
Monday, September 14 | 7:00-8:45 AM EST
Climate‑driven shocks such as floods, heatwaves, drought, and shifting rainfall are reshaping disease risks across the Global South, straining clinics and expanding vector‑ and water‑borne threats. This session, convened by the AI4PEP Network, explores how artificial intelligence can support but never replace community‑level health systems facing these pressures. Regional hubs from Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and MENA will share field insights on outbreak early warning, vector control, emergency planning, and response. Joined by global development partners, speakers will examine what works, what fails, and what policy and financing shifts are needed to scale responsible, community‑driven innovation aligned with the Summit’s resilience theme.

This session examines artificial intelligence (AI) governance in ASEAN+ healthcare systems, with a focus on promoting ethical and sustainable innovation. It explores existing governance frameworks and emerging issues in healthcare AI applications. Attention will be given to the ASEAN Guide on AI Governance and Ethics and its relevance to healthcare applications. The guide serves as a valuable reference for policymakers, healthcare institutions, researchers, and technology developers seeking to balance innovation with ethical considerations. However, challenges remain in translating these principles into practical governance mechanisms that can be consistently implemented across diverse healthcare systems within ASEAN and, where appropriate, in other regions. Through stakeholder dialogue and knowledge sharing, the session aims to support sustainable AI implementation while ensuring ethical compliance.

This session highlights how locally designed early warning systems strengthen epidemic and pandemic preparedness in Global South countries across sub‑Saharan Africa, MENA, Asia, and Latin America. Rather than relying on top‑down surveillance, AI4PEP partners show how frontline institutions embed data literacy, digital tools, and community knowledge into systems that serve local needs. Examples include community‑led seasonal risk planning, mobile reporting and vector tracking, and rapid decision‑making informed by early warning signals. The session underscores that resilient systems are built on trust, transparency, and community‑driven decision‑making.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced data processing technologies, including blockchain, are transforming healthcare data storage and management. AI supports accurate disease diagnosis, prediction, and personalised treatment, while blockchain enables secure, transparent, and tamper-proof systems for managing health records and related information. Advanced data processing helps analyse large volumes of clinical and population health data to identify patterns and support evidence-based healthcare. The integration of AI, blockchain, and data processing technologies helps to improve information security, interoperability, and healthcare efficiency. These innovations have significant potential to strengthen public health surveillance, disease prevention, and healthcare delivery while maintaining privacy and data integrity.

This year, we unveil the mosquito monitor, developed at KNUST Ghana, which uses IoT to give live updates on weather, and classifies mosquitos by genus, sex and age.
These will be invaluable inputs to the predictive modeling which will be done at De La Salle University, Manila.
Tuesday, September 29 | 1:00-3:00 PM EST
Trustworthy Agentic AI is transforming healthcare, public services, cybersecurity, and critical infrastructure through increasingly autonomous reasoning and decision-making. This session brings together experts from academia, industry, healthcare, law, and public policy to examine how Agentic AI can be developed and deployed responsibly. Discussions will address security and adversarial resilience, privacy, ethical considerations, legal responsibility and liability, regulatory compliance, human oversight, and emerging governance frameworks. The session will highlight interdisciplinary approaches for ensuring that Agentic AI systems remain secure, privacy-preserving, transparent, accountable, legally compliant, human-centered, and socially beneficial.
