Community Scholar is a participant at the 2019 Global Symposium on Reimagining Community in the 21st Century, hosted by the Samuel Centre for Social Connectedness.
She is co-facilitating a session on Individual and Collective Action called Addressing the Crises of Forced Migration and Protection where participants play a prototype social game Devine created for Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) called This is Not a Game: Forced to Flee Northern Central America. The game is accompanied by a discussion how individuals and organizations "can cultivate agency and take action to improve livelihoods, health and sustainability."
The sessions draws on some of the learnings Devine experienced with researcher during their joint Dahdaleh Institute-MSF field visit. The trip to Mexico and the border of Guatemala in Spring 2019 took them to MSF clinics supporting migrants from North Central America.
