
Professor Anna Zalik is a faculty member in the program in Global Geography, Environmental and Urban Change at 91亚色 where she teaches in the areas of international environmental politics and the political ecology of extraction. Dr Zalik鈥檚 research examines the political economy of oil, gas and other extractive industries, with a focus on the merging of corporate security and social welfare interventions in strategic exporters, particularly Nigeria, Mexico and Canada. She has also examined the relationship between popular resistance to extraction, risk analysis as carried out by global financial institutions, and the spatial reorganization of energy and extractive infrastructure. From 2005-2007 she was a Ciriacy-Wantrup Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California at Berkeley.
Dr. Zalik has received funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada for research on a range of topics related to the political economy of hydrocarbons, substantive industrial transparency, and the contested regulation of extractive industries in oceans beyond national jurisdiction. She has given invited presentations at many universities internationally, among them the Peace Research Institute 鈥 Oslo, the University of Chicago Human Rights Centre, and the UNAM in Mexico City.
