Raju J Das completed his PhD in 1996 from the Ohio State University. He is now a Professor at 91��ɫ, where he is with the Graduate Programmes in Geography, Social and Political Thought, Environmental Studies, Development Studies and Communication and Culture. Prior to joining 91��ɫ in 2004, he taught in the US and in the UK. He has supervised a large number of Masters and doctoral students. He teaches a graduate course on political economy, and undergraduate courses on a variety of topics including: global economy; international development; and the state and civil society.

Raju’s substantive research interests include: capitalist economy; class relations; nature of the state; climate change; health and society; poverty and social-spatial inequality; (uneven) economic development; social capital; right-wing and progressive politics; onto-epistemology; and social character of academia. His research has led him to believe that if a society lacks the ability to ensure a sustainable global environment and sound physical and mental health of everyone in the world, irrespective of their income, location and other backgrounds, then there is something seriously wrong with that society, which must be studied from the standpoint of these two lacks and which must be radically transformed on the basis of the knowledge gained. Raju believes in the therapeutic effects of mindfulness meditation (Insight meditation or Vipassana) and regularly practices this form of meditation.

Raju is on the editorial board of Science & Society and is a member of its Manuscript Review Collective. He is the editor of the Contentions section of Human Geography (Sage, London). He also serves as a member of the editorial board of Class, Race and Corporate Power (Florida International University) and co-edits one section of the journal on the topic of theory and practice. He is a member of the editorial advisory board of Dialectical Anthropology (Springer, New 91��ɫ) and serves on the editorial board of the Critical Social Science Book Series of De Gruyter Brill (Berlin and Leiden).
