Soumiya completed her Bachelor of Medical Sciences at Western University with an Honors Specialization in Microbiology and Immunology with Pathology. Her observership and cultural experiences in rural South Asia inspired her interest in global health.

Soumiya is passionate about applying and integrating scientific knowledge to improve health outcomes on a global scale. She is interested reducing health inequities and improving healthcare access in Canada and internationally. She plans to pursue clinical medical education with the intention of making a direct contribution to humanitarian medical assistance with Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières and the World Health Organization.

As an intern at the Dahdaleh Institute for Global Health Research, Soumiya is compiling data on the impacts of climate change on health, particularly among vulnerable populations, with the aim of creating a humanitarian medical aid framework with a climate change lens.
