Job description
The Wellness Impact Lab (WIL) – led by Dr. Harvey Skinner, PhD (Senior Fellow) and Susan Harris, MSW (Community Fellow) aims is to promote integrated health and wellness practices for personal growth and collective action. A key focus is strengthening our capacities for turning toward climate distress by fostering resiliency and action. Our passion is ‘healing ourselves, healing others, healing our world’.
Under the supervision of Prof. Margaret MacDonald (Faculty Fellow, Dahdaleh Institute) and co-supervised by Prof. Harvey Skinner (Senior Fellow, Dahdaleh Institute), the RAY student will support the work and future development of the Wellness Impact Lab.
Research Assistant and Digital Medial Lead Roles
a) Assisting with the technical IT aspects of meetings, communications and activities, and provide oversight of Global Health Interns projects.
Note: Since Climate Cafés and related WIL events are inherently collaborative, for all three positions (RAY 1, RAY 2, and RAY 3) planning, promotion, and co-facilitation will be shared across with different areas of emphasis.
b) Expanding and maintaining the digital presence of the Lab on social media and WIL website. Creating social media content related to relevant climate topics, WIL events, and other Lab initiatives.
c) Designing processes and information and for onboarding new Lab members
d) Assisting with knowledge synthesis and providing training tools
e) Providing technical expertise and support for Lab activities.
Specific research activities the student(s) will be engaged in:
a) Expanding the digital presence of the Lab via Web Master website design and updating, social media outreach, and other mechanisms including blog activity including event updates and postings
b) Creating a series of reels for social media aimed at Climate Misinformation and YouTube Library of selected video for WIL website
c) Help with new projects and Lab activities where needed
d) Other
Type of research experience the student(s) will receive:
- Critical thinking
- Conducting literature review; Creating annotated bibliography; Tabulating data;
- Preparing presentations and written outputs of research; Editing and formatting drafts; Correspondence with partners and workshop invitees;
- Professional communication, including international and cross-cultural professional interaction and communication
Type of training and support that will be provided to the student(s) in carrying out these research activities:
- Methodological training on data analysis
- Subject matter training on global health
- Regular status meetings with your supervising full-time faculty
Qualifications
- Current undergraduate 91ÑÇÉ« student. Applicants from diverse programs of study are encouraged. - Demonstrated interest in global health.
- Demonstrated skills, experience, and familiarity with conducting literature reviews.
- Demonstrated knowledge of research methods (quantitative and/or qualitative and/or integrative).
- Demonstrated excellent analytic skills for understanding, sorting, and categorizing complex information. Skills and resourcefulness in drawing mind-maps and tabulating information is an asset.
- Demonstrated note-taking, journal-keeping, and filing skills.
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills: professional written and interactive correspondence, public speaking and presentation.
- Demonstrated excellent computer skills (word processing, email, database, spreadsheets, forms, and slides; facility with Office 365 Apps). WordPress editing skills are an asset. Social media communication skills are an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including international and cross-cultural communication. Ability and willingness to work both independently and as part of a team with researchers, students, and staff.
- Demonstrated an eagerness to learn, support, and take on initiative.
- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
