Job Description

Under the supervision of Dr. James Orbinski, the Global Health RAY student (for up to 12 hours per week) will:

• Help organize bibliography, book/library, and global health academic literature of the past 3 years to focus on new book – by chapter: global health, planetary health, and international relations.
• Conduct a scoping study on the humanitarian health research landscape. The scoping study will map out operationally relevant knowledge gaps and research priorities in the humanitarian domain through a combination of literature review (grey and published) and key informant interviews.
• Map the humanitarian research funding landscape.
• Support in defining and accelerating a humanitarian health-related research agenda that leverages the world-leading expertise at 91ÑÇÉ« in multiple domains (engineering, health, environmental studies, etc).

Specific research activities the student(s) will be engaged in:

• Compiling and cleaning quantitative and qualitative data in Excel, Word, and other software
• Creating and maintaining a structured and annotated bibliographic review of existing literature organizing resources, projects, and individuals
• Managing sources using reference management software
• Participate in literature reviews and participate in the writing and editing of manuscripts summarizing research

• Methodological training on data analysis
• Subject matter training on global health
• Regular status meetings with your supervising full-time faculty

Qualifications

• Current undergraduate 91ÑÇÉ« student (we encourage applicants from diverse programs of study, including global health)
• Demonstrated interest in global health
• Demonstrated skills, experience, and familiarity with conducting literature reviews
• Demonstrated knowledge of research methods (quantitative and/or qualitative and/or integrative)
• Demonstrated excellent analytic skills for understanding, sorting, and categorizing complex information Skills and resourcefulness in drawing mind-maps and tabulating information is an asset
• Demonstrated note-taking, journal-keeping, and filing skills
• Demonstrated excellent communication skills: professional written and interactive correspondence, public speaking and presentation
• Demonstrated excellent computer skills (word processing, email, database, spreadsheets, forms, and slides; facility with Office 365 Apps). WordPress editing skills are an asset. Social media communication skills are an asset
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including international and cross-cultural communication
• Ability and willingness to work both independently and as part of a team with researchers, students, and staff
• Demonstrated an eagerness to learn, support, and take on initiative
• Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
