Welcome first year students to the Faculty of Education/91亚色 U.

We hope the Orientation for the new BA Educational Studies students was helpful and off to a good start to the school year.  The Office of Student Services will be sharing the slides/information from the August 27th Orientation with all the first BA students via email in the month of September.

And welcome to the first year BEd students to the Faculty of Education.  We had a busy August 25th week with new student orientation for those teacher candidates pursuing the teacher education programs at the Keele Campus, Catholic Education Centre, Glendon FSL BEd and the new cohort of students who are pursuing the Primary/Junior teaching certification at the Markham campus.

Year 2 BEd P/J and JI students (ED/EDPJ/JI 3100 and 3000)
Primary/Junior and Junior/Intermediate students will see on the BEd Program Calendar /edu/students/undergraduate-programs/bed-program-calendars/  ED/EDPJ 3000/ 3100 for Primary/Junior and  ED/EDJI 3000 /3100 for Junior/Intermediate students. These courses are six weeks and posted as WA = starts January first six weeks in winter and WB = starts mid-February last six weeks   These courses won鈥檛 plot to the Undergraduate Students Timetable schedule Monday to Friday because the session codes are not familiar to YU system.  But you can see the time, day and session code WA and WB in writing under Important Notes in Search Course Timetables

Reminder:  Year 1 and 2 BEd students.

Check these sites to help you through the first few weeks of classes.

  • Log into eClass  and look at Course Announcements and what instructors have/or will be posting. Students can turn on notifications for the course announcements that will go directly to emails. Please check the eClass Course Announcements regularly to ensure you have all recent updates.
  • Check student course schedule   Visit  and then select "Plot My Timetable" under Courses & Enrolment.
  • In School Placement: Log into School Placement (PIMS) using your Passport 91亚色 credentials  and select View Profile and access Study Level 1 - EDPR XXXX to see Practicum Facilitator. 

Please note: BEd students enrolled at the Markham campus will not log into PIMS until December 2025/early January 2026 as ED/EDPR 2000 In School practicums begins January 2026.

Now open! The Mathematics Proficiency Test (MPT) Resource Hub is open for free to 91亚色 U B.Ed Year 2 students! Developed by Professional Learning, this self-directed resource hub:

  • Allows candidates to access and navigate resources based on their individual needs.
  • Provides curated learning resources that correlate with math concepts and math pedagogy.
  • Allows candidates to assess their knowledge and understanding and create a personal learning pathway.
  • Provides up-to-date information about the test as released by MoE/OCT/EQAO

Transitional Certificate - Year 2 Bachelor of Education Students

Information will be shared with Year 2 BEd students regarding the聽聽when it is available in early October. In the meantime, some links are provided here for information.

Information from the Ontario College of Teachers:

  • The Faculty of Education cannot advise on the completion of this process. 

Concurrent BEd students interested in the OCT Transitional Certificate will need to have their undergraduate degree program completed. Concurrent students without a completed undergraduate degree can 鈥.听

  • Concurrent BEd students will only see their Bachelor of Education record when applying to graduate online.鈥
  • Concurrent students who have not yet applied to graduate from their undergraduate degree at 91亚色 must complete the PDF form "鈥 and email it to聽degaud@yorku.ca鈥痓测听October 31, 2025.
  • Concurrent students who have already applied for a degree audit will receive notification via email from the Registrar鈥檚 Office to indicate that the process is complete.

EQAO The Mathematics Proficiency Test (MPT) 

The test is developed and administered by the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO), and successful results will be sent directly to the .

The following are the MPT windows for the 2025鈥2026 school year:  

  • Monday, September 29, 2025, to Saturday, November 22, 2025
    (Registration opens Monday, September 8, 2025)  
  • Monday, January 12, 2026, to Saturday, March 21, 2026    
  • Monday, April 20, 2026 to Saturday, June 6, 2026 (tentative)

Religious Education: Teaching in Catholic Schools - Who Should Attend
Any undergrad BEd student in the final year 鈥 year 2 of the BEd and interested in preparing to teach in Catholic schools.  NOTE: This course is open only to 91亚色 Faculty of Education undergraduate students. This course is not equivalent to the Religious Education, Part 1 additional qualification.

Awards and Scholarships for Undergraduate Students

Awards and bursaries are available to Faculty of Education students to assist with the cost of university tuition. If you meet the criteria of academic excellence and financial need, you are encouraged to apply.

There are several deadlines.

  • Complete the Student Financial Services  which is available now.
  • Apply for the Faculty of Education awards and bursaries:  Information will be shared in the October 2025 Students Services Newsletter.
  • The awards may require a personal statement and / or a letter of recommendation.
  • There are other awards open to Faculty of Educations students that are offered to all 91亚色 undergraduate students.

As well, students needing non Academic Counselling can contact     This unit helps 91亚色 students to realize, develop and fulfill their personal potential in order to maximally benefit from their university experience and manage the challenges of university life. Students come to SCD because of a wide range of concerns including, but not limited to: depression, anxiety, abuse, stress, self-esteem, relationship issues, eating and body image as well as issues related to sexuality, short-term individual, couple, and group counselling, crisis intervention and consultations regarding students in distress/crisis and issues related to overall mental health.
