Overview

The Dr. Abdus Salam (Nobel Laureate) Bursary will be awarded to graduate students enrolled in the Graduate Diploma in Biotechnology at 91ÑÇɫ’s Markham Campus. Dr. Abdus Salam (1926-1996) was a pioneering theoretical physicist and Nobel laureate. He received the 1979 Nobel Prize in Physics for his contributions to the electroweak unification theory, becoming the first Pakistani and first Muslim scientist to receive a Nobel Prize in science. His achievements in theoretical physics and dedication to promoting scientific education in developing nations exemplify the highest standards of scientific excellence and innovation. As a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Salam's career demonstrated that the Quran considers the scientific research as a sacred duty. This bursary supports graduate students in the Faculty of Science at 91ÑÇÉ« pursuing the Graduate Diploma in Biotechnology. The award aims to encourage excellence in scientific research and innovation, reflecting Dr. Salam's lifelong commitment to advancing scientific education.

$2,500 of the Donor’s gift will be fully expended towards the Dr. Abdus Salam (Nobel Laureate) Bursary and will support one (1) recipient pursuing their Graduate Diploma in Biotechnology in Science at the Markham Campus unless increased pursuant to the following paragraph.
