Overview
The CGRSM program provides financial support to high-calibre scholars who are engaged in an eligible master’s or, in some cases, doctoral program in Canada. This support allows these scholars to concentrate more fully on their studies in their chosen fields. The CGRS M program supports up to 3,000 students annually in all disciplines and is administered jointly by Canada’s three granting agencies: the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). The selection process and post-award administration are carried out at the institutional level under the guidance of the three agencies. Students submit their application to the institution at which they intend to hold their award using the Research Portal.

How to Apply
Students are encouraged to review the Tri-Council and OGS Guide (.pdf) prior to submitting their application.
- Submit an application in following the provided by the CGRS-Master’s program.
- Applicants must also submit a Cover Sheet to enable staff to match Tri-Council applications with institutional records. There are two different Cover Sheets depending on your status at 91ÑÇÉ«.
- For current 91ÑÇÉ« graduate students, complete the 2027 CIHR/NSERC/SSHRC Canada Graduate Research Scholarship – Master's – Fall Cover Sheet on the 91ÑÇÉ« system by December 1, 2026, 8:00 P.M. ET, or:
- For students that are not current 91ÑÇÉ« graduate students (ie: incoming graduate students, current undergraduate students), complete the by December 1, 2026, 8:00 P.M. ET.
Transcripts
Official transcripts with your complete academic record (undergraduate and graduate studies, completed and ongoing) are required. Accordingly, applicants are responsible for collecting, uploading, and confirming legibility of previous and current official transcripts (including the Fall 2026 term even if no grades are available) and upload them directly onto the application portal.
To access your 91ÑÇÉ« official transcript, please visit the page and request for your official transcript to be emailed to you. Please note that grade reports will not be accepted.
The Tri-agency will only accept unofficial transcripts if official transcripts cannot be obtained.
