Overview:

• The University of Education Freiburg (Pädagogische Hochschule Freiburg) is one of six higher education institutions in Baden-Württemberg that specialise in preparing students for careers in teaching and other educational fields. It offers a range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes.
• Nature and scope of work: The PH Freiburg is a higher education institution that focuses primarily on the development of educational professionals. Its mission is to provide high quality teacher education and to conduct research that contributes to the improvement of educational practice locally, nationally and internationally. The University focuses on the integration of theory and practice in teacher education, ensuring that graduates are well prepared to meet the demands of modern classrooms and educational environments.
  • Areas of Activity:
    Teacher education: The core activity of PH Freiburg is the training of teachers for primary and secondary education. The university offers a wide range of programmes covering a variety of subjects and combining academic knowledge with pedagogical skills. The PH Freiburg works closely with the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg in its Bachelor's and Master's programmes for teacher education. The Freiburg Advanced Centre of Education (FACE), which was founded by these two universities and the Freiburg University of Music, provides a forum for all key players to work together in teacher education. Since 2018, the University of Education offers teacher education for all school levels: primary, secondary 1, secondary 2 (grades 11 to 13) and vocational.
  • Other areas of education include early childhood education, German as a foreign language, adult education, social work and health education.
  • Educational research: The university is involved in high quality research across various areas of education. It emphasises interdisciplinary research approaches that address current challenges and innovations in education. PH Freiburg has been an active partner in the ERASMUS programme for decades. It has experience in KA 1, KA 2 and KA 3 projects and uses these programmes to increase the level of internationalisation at all university levels. Thanks to this, we have a team of highly competent administrative staff who provide support for our Erasmus+ projects.
  • International cooperation: PH Freiburg is involved in numerous international partnerships, offering exchange programmes with more than 140 partner universities worldwide. This global perspective enriches the academic experience for both students and staff.
  • Professional development: In addition to degree programmes, PH Freiburg offers professional development courses for in-service teachers and educators to help them continuously update their skills and knowledge.
