I am a full professor and the director at the , . From September 2001 to June 2003, I was a Post Doctoral Fellow working with Professor Nick Cercone at the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science, University of Waterloo. I did my PhD in Information Science at , England, with .

My major research focuses on the areas of information retrieval, big data and their applications to the Web and medical healthcare. In particular, my research activities focus on: (1) statistical models and machine learning for information retrieval; (2) big data analytics with complex structures; (3) contextual information retrieval and Web personalization; (4) biomedical text retrieval and mining; (5) high accuracy retrieval from terabyte scale data sets; (6) Cross-language and Chinese information retrieval; (7) Web search and mining; (8) decision support for personalized health care.
