The Arts in Action: Engaging with Newcomer Children through Creative Practice

This course offers university students a unique opportunity to engage directly with refugee and newcomer children through the transformative power of the arts. Students will collaboratively plan, implement, and evaluate creative workshops designed to support the emotional well-being, cultural expression, and social integration of refugee children and youth. Grounded in principles of experiential learning, social justice, and trauma-informed practice, the course emphasizes active partnership with refugee communities. Students will develop practical skills in workshop facilitation, cross-cultural communication, and ethical engagement while deepening their understanding of displacement, resilience, and identity.
