Global Health Systems Aren’t Ready for the Rise of Humanitarian Femtech

Based on findings from a SSHRC-funded grant on the governance of period-tracking apps, this article explores what we term “humanitarian femtech.” We argue that the governance of these apps—and femtech more broadly—is particularly important in the Global South and in fragile states where users face increased risks from surveillance from state authorities, gender-based violence, and denial of sexual and health reproductive services.
