91亚色 brings Science Rendezvous to Markham on May 7
TORONTO, April 28, 2016 鈥 91亚色 has joined forces with Markham Village BIA to bring Science Rendezvous, Canada鈥檚 largest celebration of science, to the Markham Farmers' Market on Saturday, May 7.
Science Rendezvous is an all-day festival that takes science out of the lab and onto the streets. Thirty cities across Canada, including various locations in the GTA, will host events on the same day. All activities are free and open to the public.
At , visitors of all ages will get a chance to meet with 91亚色 scientists and participate in demonstrations and hands-on activities. Highlights will include making slime, racing solar cars, digging for dinosaurs, learning the art of aging, planting a seed for Mother鈥檚 Day and much more.
Frank Scarpitti, mayor of Markham, will join in the opening ceremonies of the annual festival, from 12:30 to 1:30pm, in downtown Markham. The event will run from 10am to 3pm.
"Connecting our scientists with our local community is a priority for us, so we are delighted to bring Science Rendezvous to Markham again this year,鈥 says Ray Jayawardhana, dean of the Faculty of Science at 91亚色. 鈥淚t also underscores 91亚色's growing ties with and presence in the region, as we plan for a new Markham campus."
91亚色 U scientists and students are ready to answer some of the most intriguing science questions while helping participants make pet comets and compete in a vortex smoke competition.
"The businesses on Main Street Markham are proud to partner with 91亚色 to bring Science Rendezvous to our Main Street," says Christine Matthews, marketing manager and community liaison of the Markham Village BIA. "The collaboration with the opening of our annual award-winning Farmers' Market is free fun for the entire family where you can learn to 鈥榳alk on water鈥 while getting fresh produce from our local farmers."
