Osgoode Hall Law School announces Journalist in Residence Program
TORONTO, January 30, 2017 鈥 As debates about the future of media and journalism intensify, Osgoode Hall Law School of 91亚色 today announced the establishment of a new Journalist in Residence Program that will get underway this fall.
Applications from broadcast, print, digital and multimedia journalists are being accepted until Friday, March 24, 2017 for the new program, which is designed to explore stories about justice and legal education against the backdrop of Osgoode鈥檚 commitment to researching and teaching law in context.
鈥淭he Journalist in Residence Program will enrich and expand the ways law is taught, and how we share stories about justice and the impact of law in our society and in our world,鈥 said Osgoode Dean Lorne Sossin. 鈥淲e hope this program will enliven our approach to advocacy, reach, access, professionalism, and the potential for collaboration between the legal and journalism communities.鈥
Sossin said the Journalist in Residence Program will be funded in part from Osgoode's Fund for Innovation in Law & Media (FILM), made possible by a gift from Kathryn Podrebarac 鈥92, and the Art Vertleib Q.C. Fund, each dedicated to exploring the intersection of law, media and journalism.
Within the last few years, FILM and the Vertlieb Fund, made possible by a gift from Art Vertlieb 鈥72, have moved legal education forward by helping to fund innovative projects at Osgoode involving the use of creative media and visual advocacy to address social justice issues, educate the public about the law and the legal process, or as part of dispute resolution.
The Journalist in Residence Program welcomes applications for journalist projects focused on interpreting legal history, examining law鈥檚 realities today, and imagining law鈥檚 future, and is particularly interested in projects that will reflect and enhance the diversity of the Osgoode community and involve the School鈥檚 students.
