TORONTO, November 13, 2018 – World Diabetes Day is on November 14 and this year’s theme is  According to recent research from the International Diabetes Federation, less than The IDF data shows four-in-five parents would have difficulty recognising the warning signs of diabetes and one-in-three wouldn’t spot them at all.

91ÑÇÉ« Faculty of Health is not only an exercise researcher but has also been living with T1D since he was 14 years old. He also has two family members who also live with type 1.  As a global expert on exercise metabolism and stress physiology, and as a parent of a newly diagnosed adolescent with T1D, Professor Riddell continues to motivate and educate on the benefits and challenges of being physically active while living with diabetes.

He can speak about:

  • His experience as a father of a child with type 1 diabetes
  • Living with type 1 diabetes
  • Using new and emerging technologies to better control type 1 diabetes
  • The role of automated insulin pumps
  • The development of new drugs that help stabilize blood sugar levels
  • Current research related to type1 including capillary impairment and the impact on blood glucose levels
  • Why blood glucose control in type 1 diabetics could be critical for the health of the skeletal muscle and its vasculature
  • Research related to the latest national exercise guideline for both type1 and type 2 diabetes
