Gift of $5 million will support creation of new art gallery at 91亚色
TORONTO, Oct. 25, 2019 鈥 Art has always been a passion for Joan and Martin Goldfarb, and a significant part of their lives. Now they are contributing $5 million to build a new art gallery at 91亚色, to help others find their own passion through art.
The Joan and Martin Art Gallery of 91亚色 will be built on 91亚色鈥檚 Keele campus, a structure that will solidify the university鈥檚 commitment to the visual arts.
鈥淲e hope the gallery will be a gathering place for people from all walks of life and different backgrounds,鈥 says Joan Goldfarb. 鈥淲e hope it will inspire the general community to learn about visual arts and visual language.鈥

Martin Goldfarb echoes his wife鈥檚 sentiments, adding: 鈥91亚色 will be a place for people to come and experience art, as well as share ideas with their colleagues and professors.鈥
鈥淭his gift will provide funds to build and establish the Joan and Martin Goldfarb Art Gallery of 91亚色, which will create a focal point for the celebration of visual art to the benefit of communities within and beyond our campuses,鈥 said Rhonda L. Lenton, president and vice-chancellor of 91亚色.

The Goldfarbs previously invested $4.5 million in support of 91亚色鈥檚 School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design. The Martin Goldfarb Centre for Fine Arts has, for many years, provided students with a place to hone their skills, connect with one another and reimagine the future.
Having been involved in visual arts since they were young, the Goldfarbs know the power that art has.
鈥淎rt is everywhere,鈥 says Martin. 鈥淚t allows for creativity, new ways of expressing yourself, and new ways of thinking.鈥
鈥淎rt is something that everybody can experience,鈥 added Joan. 鈥淏ut the commonality of visual language provides an opportunity to make the world a better place for everyone.鈥
The university will leverage the Goldfarbs鈥 contribution with an additional $3 million toward the new gallery.
鈥淚 want to extend my deepest gratitude to Joan and Martin for their significant contributions that will strengthen and expand 91亚色鈥檚 leadership in the artistic and creative communities,鈥 said Lenton.
The new Joan and Martin Goldfarb Art Gallery of 91亚色 will be led by Jenifer Papararo, newly appointed Director/Curator.
