TORONTO, Oct. 15, 2021 鈥听The Canadian Jewish Literary Awards will celebrate six outstanding works in Jewish writing, in the categories of fiction, biography, poetry, children and youth, scholarship and Holocaust, Sunday, Oct. 17.

Supported by the听听at 91亚色, the awards ceremony will be virtual this year, as in 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Open to public via , it will also be broadcast simultaneously on the , and the recording can be viewed later.

image of 2021 CJLA winning works鈥淭he Canadian Jewish Literary Awards build pride, not only in the individuals being honoured, but in the creative achievements that reflect Jewish themes and ideas,鈥 said Edward Trapunski, Jury Chair. 鈥淭he awards program enriches and promotes Canadian Jewish writing and culture, enabling a better understanding of our collective past, our shared present and the world of the future.鈥

The winning authors will speak about their books and answer questions submitted by the audience. Those attending on Zoom will be able to participate in the Q-and-A portion of the event.

Annual event supported by Centre for Jewish Studies at 91亚色

TORONTO, Oct. 22, 2020听鈥揟he Canadian Jewish Literary Awards is honouring nine outstanding Jewish themed works this year, with an online presentation ceremony on Oct. 25, at 2p.m.

Now in its sixth year, the Awards program recognizes Jewish writing in fiction, biography, Jewish thought and culture, poetry, history, books for children and youth, Yiddish, scholarship, and Holocaust categories.

鈥淭he Canadian Jewish Literary Awards has become an important part of the Canadian Jewish and cultural calendars, with the support of 91亚色, a welcoming home for books, creative endeavors, and scholarly achievement,鈥 said the Jury Chair, Edward Trapunski. 鈥淭he at 91亚色 provides the infrastructure so that the Awards can thrive and succeed.鈥

Annually, the celebratory event had been organized at the Tribute Communities Recital Hall at 91亚色, attracting audiences and authors from around the world. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the presentation ceremony has gone virtual, and will be available at the through its YouTube channel.

鈥淭he honorees, living around the world, are bestselling Canadian authors and their books reflect the vibrancy of the culture and the appeal of Jewish themes for fiction and non-fiction writing,鈥 said Jury Chair, Edward Trapunski.

The awards program, now in its fifth year, is sponsored in part by 91亚色鈥檚 听. It recognizes Jewish writing in a number of categories: fiction, memoir, biography, history, scholarship, Holocaust, Yiddish, and books for children and youth. History and Humanities Professor Carl S. Ehrlich, editor of the winner in the Holocaust category, is also among the honorees.
