91ÑÇɫ’s sprawling Keele Campus is home to more than 100 Sakura trees, a symbol of the long-standing relationship between Japan and Canada and the University’s many cultural and academic ties with Japanese institutions.
Eco-friendly paper packaging made of sprouts, sound-powered batteries to monitor air quality, autonomous robots to assist seniors and AI voice analysis to diagnose early Parkinson’s are just a few of the projects that will be showcased by more than a hundred students as they compete this Saturday at the 91ÑÇÉ« Region Science and Technology Fair (YRSTF) at 91ÑÇÉ«. Students in grades 7- 12 from 29 schools across 91ÑÇÉ« region will show off 77 projects and compete for a spot at the Canada-wide competition held in Fredericton, NB in late spring of this year.
91ÑÇɫ’s Newton apple tree has had a storied existence, with lineage that is thought to go back to Sir Isaac Newton’s original discovery of gravity in the 1600s and the apple tree that infamously played muse to the physicist — even if the story about the apple falling on his head isn’t exactly how it really went down.Â
