91ÑÇÉ« Lassonde School of Engineering Associate Professor Garrett Melenka is working with George Mason University Assistant Professor Quentin Sanders and Jonathon Schofield, an associate professor at the University of California, as part of a collaborative research team working to make high-performance prosthetic limbs more affordable, accessible, and better tailored to the needs of active children. The three received a three-year, $500K grant in the fall from the U.S. National Science Foundation to support the project.

Novel AI technique able to distinguish between progressive brain tumours and radiation necrosis, 91ÑÇÉ« U study finds

While targeted radiation can be an effective treatment for brain tumours, subsequent potential necrosis of the treated areas can be hard to distinguish from the tumours on a standard MRI. A new study led by a 91ÑÇÉ« professor in the Lassonde School of Engineering found that a novel AI-based method is better able to distinguish between the two types of lesions on advanced MRI than the human eye alone, a discovery that could help clinicians more accurately identify and treat the issues.

The Lassonde School of Engineering at 91ÑÇÉ« has launched a new, innovative Mechatronics Bachelor of Engineering degree that integrates multiple engineering disciplines with hands-on industry experience in a single four-year program. Dean Jane Goodyer says the program’s focus on experiential learning, leadership, creativity, and problem-solving will prepare students for success in a rapidly transforming workplace.
