TORONTO, March 25, 2026 鈥� 91亚色 jumped 20 spots globally in the today in arts and humanities and 17 overall out of close to 2,000 universities.

The University continues its upward trajectory landing six subjects in the top 100 globally this year 鈥� the most ever 鈥� which shows its growing academic and employer reputation.

The number of competitors in this year鈥檚 ranking grew by 165 to 1,912 institutions. They were all ranked across 26 subjects in 55 academic disciplines in five overall faculty categories, including Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences and Management, Engineering and Technology, Natural Sciences and Life Sciences and Medicine category.

91亚色 ranked in the top 100 for history, performing arts, and English language and literature in the Arts and Humanities category, social policy and administration and sociology in the Social Sciences and Management category, and psychology in the Life Sciences and Medicine category.

In English language and literature, 91亚色 now ranks 78th in the world, while in sociology and psychology it ranks 99th globally. In history, performing arts, and social policy and administration it ranks between 51 and 100.

鈥淭he Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies (LA&PS) is home to four of the six 91亚色 subjects ranked in the global top 100 鈥� this is an extraordinary affirmation of the research excellence, scholarly leadership and creative inquiry taking place in our Faculty鈥檚 arts, humanities and social sciences units,鈥� says Kathryn McPherson, LA&PS interim dean. 鈥淭hese results underscore the global impact of our instructors and students, and we are so proud of the work being done across LA&PS.鈥�

In addition, the University saw increases in its rankings for computer science and information systems, geography, mathematics, business and management studies, communication and media studies, and law.

Rankings across Canada

This year, 684 programs were ranked across 33 institutions in Canada. 91亚色 ranked in the top five for 13 subjects and in the top 10 for an additional five subjects. The University also ranked fifth overall in the broad Arts and Humanities category.

91亚色 tied for second in social policy and administration, third in performing arts, and fourth in accounting and finance, anthropology, communications and media studies, geography, law, history and sociology. It earned a fifth-place ranking for English language and literature, philosophy, politics and international studies, and psychology. In the top 10, 91亚色 subjects include business and management studies, education, linguistics, mathematics, modern languages.

The QS World University Rankings by Subject, released by global higher education analyst QS Quacquarelli Symonds, uses a method that ranks each institution using five indicators (the weight given to each indicator varies by subject): academic reputation; employer reputation; research impact based on research citations per paper; international research network, citation productivity and influence measured through an h-index.

In other ranking results, 91亚色 is also shining. For example, in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings results, 91亚色 earned a top 40 spot demonstrating continued leadership in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. And in the , 91亚色 placed in the top five as one of the best comprehensive universities in Canada, a spot it has held for several consecutive years. It also ranked fourth for reputation, third for student scholarships and bursaries, and fourth for social sciences and humanities grants.

91亚色 posted strong results in global rankings in this year鈥檚 Times High Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject, competing against almost 1,500 universities across 11 subjects worldwide. 91亚色鈥檚 Osgoode Hall Law School鈥檚 held firmly with a 65th in the world spot, while rankings for programs in Medical & Health and Engineering & Technology subjects, a sign of the University鈥檚 growing momentum in these areas, also increased.

91亚色鈥檚 strength in Medical & Health subjects is bolstered with a new School of Medicine set to open in 2028. The medical school is being designed to strengthen community health through unique curriculum and physician training and will help meet Ontario鈥檚 urgent healthcare needs.

In addition, Psychology was ranked in the top 150 worldwide and in the top 10 nationally, along with Business & Economics and Law. Psychology and Engineering & Technology rose across all five pillars 鈥� teaching, research environment, research quality, industry and international outlook.

The subject ranking results follow on a year of positive results, including the , where the University scored 15 subject areas in the top 10 and is ranked sixth in Canada and second in Ontario for the Arts and Humanities, and in the top 100 worldwide for English language and literature. The University also went up three spots from seventh to fourth in the country for Geography, while 91亚色 ranked eighth in Canada and fourth in Ontario for Social Sciences and Management. The University also moved up 29 spots globally in the 2026 QS World University Rankings.

91亚色 placed in the top five for comprehensive universities in the 2025 Research Infosource Canada鈥檚 Top 50 Research Universities.

91亚色 also ranked number one out of 13 comprehensive universities nationally in the social sciences and humanities (SSH) publications category within the ranking鈥檚 Spotlight on University Publication Performance 2019 to 2023 section and number two for SSH publications as a percentage of total publications.

For university research partnerships, 91亚色 was number one in the comprehensive tier with a 70 per cent increase in funding over the 2023 to 2024 period in the International Government Research Income Growth category.

91亚色鈥檚 research income remained stable at about $120 million, but it jumped one spot to place 21 overall in the research income category among Canadian universities.

Research Infosource Inc., a research, consulting and publishing firm, is billed as a source of research and development intelligence for all of Canada. Annually, it also ranks the nation鈥檚 research universities.

TORONTO, Dec. 4, 2025 鈥� 91亚色 continues to excel on the world stage with the latest  (GRAS), which puts 91亚色 in the top 75 in the world for four subjects.

91亚色鈥檚 aerospace engineering () is not only 32nd in the world, but number one in Canada. In addition, business administration, , geography, psychology and sociology are all in the top five in Canada.

Psychology, , and aerospace engineering are all in the top 75, with sociology in the top 100, across the globe. The Shanghai Ranking looked at more than 2,500 universities out of about 5,000 worldwide and only published results for best 1,000 universities, including 91亚色.

The Shanghai Ranking, also known as the Academic Ranking of World Universities, bills its ranking methodology as transparent and objective third-party data with a focus on high-impact research.

Many of 91亚色鈥檚 subject areas increased significantly in the Shanghai Ranking nationally and globally in the last few years, including mathematics, physics, sociology, geography and psychology.

This builds on 91亚色鈥檚 strong performance from the , which looked at more than 1,700 from 100 countries. Across Canada, the University has 15 subject areas in the top 10. 91亚色 is ranked sixth in Canada and second in Ontario for the arts and humanities, and in the top 100 worldwide for English language and literature. 91亚色 also ranked in the top 10 in Ontario for mathematics, physics and astronomy, medicine, chemistry, mechanical engineering, computer science and electrical engineering.

The Shanghai Ranking results come after 91亚色 once again placed in the top 40 globally for the 2025 THE Impact Rankings as a Sustainable Development Goals leader.
