Social media use linked to poorer mental health in older Canadians, study finds

Seniors are considered the fastest-growing group on the Internet, but does being connected online help or hinder mental health for older adults? According to a new study published in the open access journal PLOS Global Public Health led by 91ÑÇÉ« Glendon College Associate Professor Hossam Ali-Hassan, while some Internet use such as email has been associated with mental health benefits, social media sites were linked to lower perceived mental health.

Women with high-risk HPV and metabolic syndrome have almost three times risk for mortality, 91ÑÇÉ« researchers find

Using large-scale U.S. data following patients for more than a decade, 91ÑÇÉ« Faculty of Health researchers found that women with both metabolic syndrome and high-risk strains of human papillomavirus (HPV) are at a 2.6 times higher risk for mortality than women without either condition, suggesting a need to look at chronic disease comorbidity when it comes to HPV-related cancers.
