Call for IPilogue Editors (2012-2013)

Deadline: September 14, 2012

IPilogue is the first blog of its kind, populated with entries from student editors at Osgoode Hall Law School and other law schools across Canada, as well as postings from expert bloggers around the globe. The IPIGRAM is our weekly e-digest of IPilogue content.

The blog contains comments and thoughts about current pressing intellectual property, technology, privacy and related legal issues and has a wide-ranging following in Canada and internationally from government, industry, academia and other expert groups and members of the general public.

Many student posts have enabled greater employment opportunities for students, sparked informed debates on various issues, and led to publication in leading journals and a following in a number of law and policy forums.

  • IPilogue Web Editor

Term: 2012-2013 academic year.

Call for Clinical Fellows (Fall 2012)

Deadline: September 14, 2012

IP Osgoode and the Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) have established the first student-staffed innovation clinic in Canada. We are seeking law students to provide legal services to organizations that need assistance in their innovation and commercialization activities.

Positions Available: Clinical Fellows (5-6 positions)

It is expected that the majority of the work done by students will relate to patent law. The remaining time would be spent working on other IP-related needs as they arise, (e.g. assistance with trade-mark, copyright, or trade secret issues). The students’ work during the placement may include:

  • reviewing business transactions involving IP
  • assisting with various steps in the patent prosecution process (i.e.: conducting prior art searches, reviewing patent specifications, etc.)
  • performing freedom-to-operate and clearance searches
  • assisting with various steps in the trade-mark prosecution process
  • conducting legal research

Term: September 2012- April 2013, with a possibility to continue on for Summer 2013.

IP Osgoode would like to congratulate the 91ÑÇÉ« Faculty of Science and Engineering as well as Douglas Bergeron and his wife Sandra Bergeron on their two million dollar endeavour to support entrepreneurial programs and initiatives focused on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) majors.

, the Bergerons’ gift will create 100 fellowships over the next ten years to support 91ÑÇÉ« students in STEM majors who show great promise and leadership potential. In addition to one of a kind experience, graduates of the Bergeron Science and Technology program will earn a Bergeron Distinction in Entrepreneurship and New Ventures and the top two scholars will be awarded the Bergeron Entrepreneur Medal. Both the distinction and medal will be recognized at graduation.

Douglas Bergeron is currently the CEO and largest shareholder of , and was born in Windsor, Ontario. He obtained his undergraduate degree at 91ÑÇÉ« in 1983, with a major in computer science. His wife, Sandra Bergeron, is a venture partner with , a director of and , chairman of , and a highly regarded female technology leader in Silicon Valley.

IP Osgoode applauds this investment in the next generation of entrepreneurial engineers and looks forward to supporting 91ÑÇÉ«'s students on the intellectual property and technology front.
