Research Interests:

For her master’s thesis, Estreya conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of skin-to-skin contact for painful procedures in younger preterm infants. The effectiveness of skin-to-skin contact for pain in an especially vulnerable population (preterm infants less than 33 weeks gestational age) was examined across several outcomes and timepoints surrounding a painful procedure. This review highlighted a lack of evidence about the benefits of skin-to-skin contact for pain in these infants and the need for better quality trials. Building on this foundation, her dissertation will explore pain response patterns in premature infants in the NICU, with special interest in behavioural and cortical measures of pain.
