Dear 91亚色 Community,

During Pride Month, we celebrate the contributions the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities have made to 驰辞谤办鈥檚 values of equity, diversity, inclusivity and social justice.聽

At 91亚色, we recognize that we must continue to stand against homophobia and all forms of discrimination and racism to ensure that all community members feel a sense of belonging. We will continue to work at creating spaces that are free from discrimination based on gender identity or sexual orientation and where everyone is valued. We understand that our community members have intersectional identities. Together, we have a shared responsibility to create an environment that allows all community members to be their most authentic self. 

We encourage everyone to visit the Pride Month website and participate in the many events and celebrations happening throughout the month to learn more about the significant contributions 2SLGBTQIA+ community members have made across the University.  

It is our responsibility to work towards removing barriers for members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community who have been historically, structurally and systematically excluded. We are committed to creating an affirming and inclusive teaching, learning and work environment for all our community members.

Dear 91亚色 Community,

Today marks the start of Indigenous History Month, a time when we acknowledge Indigenous Peoples 鈥 their history, cultures, and many contributions and achievements. It is a specific opportunity to learn about and engage with Indigenous knowledges, languages, practices, and ways of being and their importance to both 91亚色 and Canadian society more broadly.

91亚色 has acted with intention in cultivating relationships and creating space and place for the Indigenous community. Working with the Indigenous Council and in response to recommendations made in the and Decolonizing Research Administration report, last year, we welcomed the first associate vice president, Indigenous initiatives to our leadership team. This year, we also established the Centre for Indigenous Knowledges and Languages (CIKL) and awarded the first Indigenous postdoctoral fellow with the inaugural Provost鈥檚 Postdoctoral fellowships for Black and Indigenous Scholars. Additionally, the 91亚色 Indigenous Research Seed Fund, announced in May 22, awarded 10 scholars a total of $204,298.

91亚色 looks forward to strengthening relationships with the local Indigenous communities that surround our campuses and we acknowledge that there is a long journey towards our goal of decolonization and reconciliation.

We encourage you to seek knowledge about the ways in which Indigenous peoples have contributed to society and history through the resources that are available to you. Please also take the time to learn about the many Indigenous initiatives that are taking place at 91亚色.

Dear 91亚色 community members,

Our society has benefited immensely from Indigenous knowledge, languages and ways of knowing and being. Indigenous people contribute to positive change in our communities, our environment and to the enrichment and well-being of society.

Indigenous scholars and students have made and continue to achieve tremendous success in research, teaching and learning, despite ongoing barriers rooted in deep colonial policies and practices that govern research administration and in many ways conflict with Indigenous research methodologies. 91亚色 acknowledges the implications of the lack of attention and recognition that was given to the legitimacy of Indigenous knowledge in the past.

91亚色 is committed to supporting emerging and established Indigenous scholars and the knowledge creation they are involved with, in collaboration with the community, knowledge keepers and elders. This commitment has been and continues to be an ongoing journey. 91亚色 was the first Canadian university where a dissertation was written and defended in an Indigenous language. We are committed to putting in the work to support and recognize the legitimacy of Indigenous knowledge and the value that Indigenous scholars contribute. We recognize the significance of Indigenous languages and the knowledge embedded in language.

In November 2017, 91亚色 launched the , which identified 10 principles the University needed to take action on to advance the goals of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Guided by the Framework, and working in consultation with the Indigenous Council, the Office of the Vice-President Research & Innovation developed a Decolonizing Research Administration Report to address the University鈥檚 research administration practices and policies, and to identify further steps the University should take to better support and foster Indigenous scholars.

The University has taken positive steps in this journey to date.

  • In May 2018, 91亚色 launched its聽Strategic Research Plan 2018鈥2023: Towards New Heights, which identified Indigenous futurities as an opportunity to advance social, cultural, artistic, legal, policy, economic and justice areas that holistically shape Indigenous experience. 91亚色 remains committed to building community partnerships in research, and to facilitating research that is relevant to Indigenous life and respects Indigenous approaches to knowledge and learning.
  • In June 2020, 91亚色 launched the聽University Academic Plan 2020鈥2025: Building a Better Future, which affirmed its commitment to the Indigenous Framework and identified six priorities for action for building a better future, including stronger relationships with Indigenous communities.
  • In July 2021, 91亚色 announced the appointment of Professor聽Susan D. Dion聽to the inaugural role of associate vice-president Indigenous initiatives. Professor Dion is a Lenape and Potawatomi scholar with mixed Irish and French ancestry and was the first Indigenous tenure-track faculty member to be hired by the Faculty of Education at 91亚色. Professor Dion鈥檚 work has been instrumental to the implementation of 驰辞谤办鈥檚 Indigenous Framework and the Decolonization Research Administration Report.
  • In September 2021, 91亚色 launched the聽Centre for Indigenous Knowledges and Languages聽鈥 the first organized research unit of its kind at 91亚色 鈥 which is committed to Indigenous approaches for the environment, education, languages and decolonizing research. The Centre for Indigenous Knowledges and Languages is led by inaugural Director聽Deborah McGregor, an associate professor at 91亚色 and the Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Environmental Justice at Osgoode Hall Law School.
  • In December 2021, the Office of the Vice-President Research & Innovation awarded $525,000 to two projects focused on advancing Indigenous futurities through the Catalyzing Interdisciplinary Research Clusters. The projects include 鈥淚ndigenous Climate Leadership and Self-Determined Futures,鈥 led by聽Deborah McGregor, Osgoode Hall Law School and聽Angele Alook, Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, and 鈥淔rom Colonial Genocide to Just Relationships: Building Interdisciplinary Research Excellence for Indigenous Futurities,鈥 led by聽Luann Good Gingrich, Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, and聽Heidi Matthews, Osgoode Hall Law School.
  • In the Winter 2023 term, the Office of the Vice-President Research & Innovation will launch the first wholly autonomous Indigenous Research Ethics Board, which will be led and advised by Indigenous members, with the goal of providing oversight and ethics review into research involving Indigenous Peoples.

We would like to commend the Indigenous Council, the Office of the Vice-President Research & Innovation and the Division of Equity, People and Culture for their progress to date, and for their unwavering commitment to supporting Indigenous research and the work of Indigenous scholars.

The University is fully committed to taking action to decolonize research, and to recognizing and supporting research in service of the sovereignty and self-determination goals of Indigenous people, now and in the future. We will foster and promote scholarly activity relevant to Indigenous life, while respecting Indigenous approaches to knowledge and learning. By doing so, we will live our values by championing diversity and by creating a supportive, inclusive and caring environment for all.

The decolonization of research is not a short-term goal and there is still a great distance to go, but 91亚色 is committed to putting in the work. We will continue to consult and collaborate with Indigenous scholars and students to build spaces and places for Indigenous knowledges and languages.

En novembre 2017, 91亚色 a lanc茅 le , qui identifiait dix principes que l鈥橴niversit茅 devait mettre en 艙uvre pour faire avancer les objectifs de la Commission de v茅rit茅 et de r茅conciliation. S鈥檌nspirant de ce cadre et en consultation avec le Conseil autochtone, le Bureau du vice-pr茅sident de la recherche et de l鈥檌nnovation a 茅labor茅 un Rapport sur la d茅colonisation de l鈥檃dministration de la recherche afin d鈥檈xaminer les pratiques et les politiques de l鈥橴niversit茅 en mati猫re d鈥檃dministration de la recherche et de d茅terminer les mesures suppl茅mentaires que l鈥橴niversit茅 devrait adopter pour mieux soutenir et encourager les chercheurs autochtones.

脌 ce jour, l鈥橴niversit茅 a pris des mesures positives dans ce sens :

  • En mai 2018, 91亚色 a lanc茅 son Strategic Research Plan 2018-2023 : Towards New Heights, qui consid猫re les futurs autochtones comme une occasion de faire progresser les domaines sociaux, culturels, artistiques, juridiques, politiques, 茅conomiques et judiciaires qui fa莽onnent l鈥檈xp茅rience autochtone de mani猫re holistique. L鈥橴niversit茅 91亚色 reste d茅termin茅e 脿 茅tablir des partenariats communautaires dans le domaine de la recherche et 脿 faciliter les recherches pertinentes 脿 la vie des Autochtones et qui respectent les approches autochtones en mati猫re de connaissances et d鈥檃pprentissage.
  • En juin 2020, 91亚色 a lanc茅 le Plan acad茅mique de l鈥橴niversit茅 2020-2025 : B芒tir un avenir meilleur dans lequel elle affirme son engagement envers le cadre autochtone et d茅finit six priorit茅s d鈥檃ction en vue d鈥檜n avenir meilleur, notamment le renforcement des relations avec les communaut茅s autochtones.
  • En juillet 2021, 91亚色 a annonc茅 la nomination de la professeure Susan D. Dion au poste inaugural de vice-pr茅sidente associ茅e aux affaires autochtones. La professeure Dion est une 茅rudite Lenape et Potawatomi d鈥檃scendance irlandaise et fran莽aise. Elle est la premi猫re professeure autochtone engag茅e par la Facult茅 d鈥櫭ヾucation de 91亚色 qui occupe un poste menant 脿 la permanence. Le travail de la professeure Dion a 茅t茅 d茅terminant pour la mise en 艙uvre du cadre autochtone de 91亚色 et du rapport de l鈥檃dministration de la recherche sur la d茅colonisation.
  • En septembre 2021, 91亚色 a lanc茅 le Centre for Indigenous Knowledges and Languages 鈥 la premi猫re unit茅 de recherche organis茅e de ce genre 脿 91亚色 鈥 qui s鈥檈ngage 脿 adopter des approches autochtones pour l鈥檈nvironnement, l鈥櫭ヾucation, les langues et la recherche d茅colonisatrice. Le Centre des savoirs et langues autochtones est dirig茅 par sa toute premi猫re directrice, Deborah McGregor, professeure agr茅g茅e 脿 91亚色 et titulaire de la Chaire de recherche du Canada en justice environnementale autochtone 脿 l鈥櫭塩ole de droit Osgoode Hall.
  • En mai 2022, dans le cadre d鈥檜ne initiative conjointe avec la vice-pr茅sidente de l鈥櫭﹒uit茅, le Bureau du vice-pr茅sident de la recherche et de l鈥檌nnovation des personnes et de la culture a accord茅 10 subventions de d茅marrage pour la recherche autochtone. Il a ainsi engag茅 204鈥298 $ pour intensifier les efforts de l鈥橴niversit茅 afin de lutter contre le colonialisme dans la recherche et de promouvoir l鈥檈xcellence dans la recherche autochtone. Un montant additionnel de 795鈥000 $ a 茅t茅 engag茅 pour soutenir la recherche autochtone au cours des trois prochaines ann茅es.
  • En d茅cembre 2021, le Bureau du vice-pr茅sident de la recherche et de l鈥檌nnovation a accord茅 525鈥000 $ 脿 deux projets ax茅s sur l鈥檃vancement de futurs autochtones par le biais de groupes de recherche interdisciplinaire catalyseurs. Les projets incluent : 芦&苍产蝉辫;Indigenous Climate Leadership and Self-Determined Futures 禄, dirig茅 par Deborah McGregor de l鈥櫭塩ole de droit Osgoode Hall et Angele Alook de LA&PS; et 芦&苍产蝉辫;From Colonial Genocide to Just Relationships:  Building Interdisciplinary Research Excellence for Indigenous Futurities 禄, dirig茅 par Luann Good Gingrich de LA&PS, et Heidi Matthews de l鈥櫭塩ole de droit Osgoode Hall.

Nous tenons 脿 f茅liciter le Conseil autochtone, le Bureau du vice-pr茅sident de la recherche et de l鈥檌nnovation et la Division de l鈥櫭﹒uit茅, des personnes et de la culture pour les progr猫s r茅alis茅s 脿 ce jour et pour leur engagement ind茅fectible envers la recherche autochtone et le travail des chercheurs autochtones.

L鈥橴niversit茅 s鈥檈ngage pleinement 脿 prendre des mesures pour d茅coloniser la recherche ainsi qu鈥櫭 reconna卯tre et 脿 soutenir la recherche au service des objectifs de souverainet茅 et d鈥檃utod茅termination des peuples autochtones, aujourd鈥檋ui et 脿 l鈥檃venir. Nous favoriserons et ferons la promotion d鈥檃ctivit茅s savantes pertinentes pour la vie autochtone tout en respectant les approches autochtones de la connaissance et de l鈥檃pprentissage. Ce faisant, nous vivrons nos valeurs en d茅fendant la diversit茅 et en cr茅ant un environnement favorable, inclusif et bienveillant pour tout le monde.

La d茅colonisation de la recherche n鈥檈st pas un objectif 脿 court terme. Il reste encore beaucoup de chemin 脿 parcourir, mais 91亚色 s鈥檈ngage 脿 y mettre du sien. Nous continuerons 脿 consulter les universitaires autochtones et les membres de population 茅tudiante autochtone et 脿 collaborer avec eux afin de cr茅er des espaces et des lieux pour les connaissances et les langues autochtones.

Dear colleagues,

I am excited to announce that the search for the next Dean, Faculty of Health has reached a successful conclusion.

The search committee, chaired by Provost Lisa Philipps and comprised of members of the Faculty of Health (faculty, staff and students) and one member appointed by me, undertook an extensive national and international search which attracted outstanding candidates for this key position in our University. On May 3, 2022, the Board of Governors concurred with my recommendation that Dr. David Peters be appointed to the position of Dean, Faculty of Health for a five-year term, effective January 1, 2023.

Dr. David Peters

Dr. Peters comes to 91亚色 from Johns Hopkins University鈥檚 Bloomberg School of Public Health, where he is currently Edgar Berman Professor and Chair in International Health and is cross-appointed to the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine鈥檚 Division of Infectious Diseases and the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, and also serves as Director, Alliance for a Healthier World. He holds an MD from the University of Manitoba and a doctorate in Public Health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He has been a faculty member at JHU since 2002, during which time he has also held senior specialist positions with the World Bank as part of his active practice working to improve the performance of health systems in low- and middle-income countries, especially addressing the needs of the poor and vulnerable. At Johns Hopkins, Dr. Peters is affiliated with the Bloomberg School鈥檚 Department of International Health, which he has Chaired since 2013, and the Center for AIDS Research, the Center for Global Health, and the Gupta-Klinsky India Institute at Johns Hopkins. He also holds an adjunct appointment with the International Institute of Health Management and Research, Delhi, and participates in numerous high-level societies, boards and professional and scholarly associations.

A prolific researcher with an h-index of 57, he has published eight books, 22 book chapters, and more than 150 peer-reviewed journal articles and a large number of reports and reviews 鈥 including hundreds of peer review activities for journals, books and the World Bank 鈥 and has been cited more than 15,000 times. Dr. Peters is presently Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator for seven international research projects valued at over US$20m and has previously completed nearly 30 such primary and collaborative health research undertakings. His work has been occupied largely with capacity building and the promotion of health and equity on a global scale. Strongly committed to equity, diversity and inclusion, social justice and human rights, Dr. Peters has also worked directly and collaboratively with Indigenous communities in both Canada and the US on clinical and population health projects.

With extensive academic and administrative leadership experience, Dr. Peters joins 91亚色 at a pivotal moment for the Faculty of Health as it continues an exciting trajectory of success, fulfilling its mission to enhance human health, health equity, health care and wellbeing. Home to 10,000+ students, 200+ full-time faculty, and 20,000+ alumni globally, the Faculty is committed to excellence in research, teaching and learning and community service. Dr. Peters will bring his skill in strategic planning and development and his extensive international relationship network to the Faculty and to 91亚色 as he returns to his home country and continues to build his view of the academy as the vanguard for science in public health and wellbeing.

I would like to thank the members of the search committee for their contributions to this important process. I am deeply grateful to Dr. Susan Murtha, who has ably served as Interim Dean, Faculty of Health since March 1 and will continue in that role through December 31, 2022.

I know that all members of the University will join me in congratulating and welcoming Dr. Peters. I look forward to working with him in the coming years as a core member of the University鈥檚 academic leadership team as the Faculty of Health continues to deliver on its mission to keep more people healthier longer.

M.聽Peters vient de l鈥櫭塩ole de sant茅 publique Bloomberg de l鈥橴niversit茅 Johns Hopkins, o霉 il est actuellement professeur et titulaire de la chaire Edgar Berman en sant茅 internationale. Il d茅tient une nomination conjointe 脿 la Division des maladies infectieuses de l鈥櫭塩ole de m茅decine et 脿 l鈥櫭塩ole de soins infirmiers de l鈥橴niversit茅 Johns Hopkins. Il dirige 茅galement l鈥檕rganisme Alliance for a Healthier World. Il est titulaire d鈥檜n doctorat en m茅decine de l鈥橴niversit茅 du Manitoba et d鈥檜n doctorat en sant茅 publique de la Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHU). May is Asian Heritage Month, an important opportunity to reflect on the history, achievements and contributions of Asian students, staff, faculty and course instructors at 91亚色, and acknowledge the many ways our local and global communities are enriched by their insights, experiences and innovations in programming, curriculum, teaching, research, scholarship and activism.

The 91亚色 Centre for Asian Research, which brings together colleagues from the liberal arts, health, education, creative and performing arts, law and business, has helped to create critical opportunities for intellectual exchange, research support, graduate training and knowledge mobilization related to East, Southeast and South Asia, as well as Asian migrant communities in Canada and around the world.

Asian Heritage Month is also a timely reminder that we must stand together to eliminate anti-Asian racism 鈥 and all forms of racism and discrimination 鈥 on and off our campuses. We know that in Canada and around the world, anti-Asian racism and systemic discrimination are on the rise, and that addressing these issues will require both action and education. Our Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Strategy, currently in draft form for consultation, outlines the actions we are taking to combat all forms of racism and foster a diverse, equitable and inclusive teaching, learning and working environment for all of our community members. 

We encourage all members of the 91亚色 community to take the time to learn more about the longstanding contributions that all Asians living and participating in Canadian life have made to advance our country鈥檚 culture and prosperity, and we remain grateful for all opportunities to foster dialogue, awareness and action.

罢丑别听聽were released earlier today and 91亚色 has strengthened its position, ranking among the world鈥檚 top 35 institutions for global leadership on advancing the United Nations鈥 17聽Sustainable Development Goals听(厂顿骋蝉).鈥犫赌犅

While an additional 280+ universities have joined the rankings since last year, 91亚色 has moved up 34 spots to place 33rd out of 1,406 institutions worldwide. 驰辞谤办鈥檚 vision and values are reflected in our performance this year. Of particular note, our impressive results are seen in the following categories:鈥 

  • In sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11), 91亚色 ranks in the top 10 globally聽
  • In peace, justice, and strong institutions (SDG 16), 91亚色 also ranks in the top 10 globally聽
  • In gender equality (SDG 5), 91亚色 ranks No. 1 in Canada, and 21 globally.聽鈥

This strong performance is a direct result of the commitment of our students, faculty, course directors, staff, alumni, and many partners whose dedication to our communities and our planet has not wavered, even during a global pandemic. It reflects the community鈥檚 ongoing commitment to advancing the University Academic Plan 2020鈥25 and the SDG Challenge, which aim to build a better future and answer the call on some of our most pressing global challenges. 

We would like to thank all of you once more for your tremendous contributions and achievements that have led to the University achieving this public recognition of our collective impact. Through your research, academic pursuits, and projects, you are demonstrating that positive change begins at 91亚色. Dear 91亚色 Community,

It is my great pleasure to inform you that 91亚色鈥檚 2022 Spring Convocation ceremonies will be delivered in-person this year. Convocation is the formal recognition of our students鈥 many years of dedication and hard work, and we are delighted to have the opportunity to recognize this year鈥檚 graduates at our first in-person ceremonies since 2019. Ceremonies will take place at the Aviva Centre and at the Glendon campus from Friday, June 10, to Saturday, June 18.

We will also be inviting all graduates who have celebrated at virtual ceremonies in 2020 and 2021 to join us at in-person ceremonies this June. These alumni have been contacted by the Convocation Office to confirm their interest in attending a ceremony, which will be held from Friday, June 3, to Thursday, June 9, at the Keele Campus, and on Saturday, June 18, at Glendon.

Invitations for the Spring 2022 graduands as well as the 2020 and 2021 alumni will be sent to those eligible in early May, and more detailed ceremony information can be found on the Convocation website. Faculty are encouraged to attend the alumni and Spring 2022 ceremonies. An invitation with information on how to RSVP will be sent to faculty in May.

The safety of our graduands, their guests, and the 91亚色 community remains our highest priority, and the University will continue to ensure that the planning and delivery of our Convocation ceremonies adheres to all public health and safety guidance. In addition, all Convocation ceremonies will be webcast live to accommodate graduands, family, and friends who are unable to attend in-person.

I look forward to celebrating our Spring 2022 graduands in person this June, and also to welcoming our 2020 and 2021 alumni back to 驰辞谤办鈥檚 campuses.

Dear 91亚色 community members,

Each year, on March 8, 91亚色 joins communities around the world in celebrating International Women鈥檚 Day, and the many contributions women have made locally and globally to advance gender equity.

91亚色 champions the diverse lived experiences of women and acknowledges the intersectionality of gender, ability, age, identity, race, gender diversity and Indigeneity on their lives. The theme for International Women鈥檚 Day 2022, #BreakTheBias, serves to acknowledge the struggles, barriers and work yet to be done in creating a more resilient, equitable and sustainable future for us all.

Whether deliberate or unconscious, bias makes it difficult for women to advance personally and professionally. But acknowledging that bias exists is not enough 鈥 we must take action. 91亚色 is working to break the six common types of biases at work: likeability bias, attribution bias, performance bias, affinity bias, maternal bias and intersectionality bias. Additionally, 驰辞谤办鈥檚 2020鈥2025 Academic Plan: Building a Better Future calls on the entire community to take meaningful action towards advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals 鈥 including SDG 5: Gender Equality 鈥 to create more equitable access to education that ensures no talent is left behind, and to advance equity in our research, teaching and learning.  

We want to wish all of 驰辞谤办鈥檚 students, staff, faculty, course instructors and alumni a happy International Women鈥檚 Day, and thank you all for your support and contributions as we move towards an inclusive, diverse and equitable world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination.  

Together, we can all break the bias.

Dear 91亚色 Community,

With the armed conflict in Ukraine continuing to heighten, I know that many of our community members, myself included, are profoundly distressed by the unconscionable scenes of violence and devastation we are witnessing in the news each day. 91亚色 condemns these acts of aggression in the strongest possible terms, and stands in solidarity with the people of Ukraine in their ongoing struggle for freedom and self-determination. 91亚色 supports all diplomatic efforts to achieve peace, security, and democracy, both in Ukraine and countries around the world experiencing violence and division.

Our thoughts remain with the people of Ukraine, as well as the many Russian citizens who are facing persecution for publicly opposing the war.

Further to my from last week, I want to acknowledge the immense impact the conflict has had on community members with personal or professional ties to the region, particularly those with friends, family members, or colleagues currently living there. We have reached out to all 91亚色 students with Ukrainian and Russian citizenship individually to offer our assistance, and are working in partnership with Universities Canada; Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada; and Global Affairs Canada to provide support to students and scholars from the affected areas.

When there is war and human tragedy anywhere in the world, we can all be affected, especially those who have lived experiences of war or civil unrest. And so I would also like to take this opportunity to share more details about the supports available to all 91亚色 community members.

There are a number of resources available to students, including:

  • Financial Supports: including ;
  • Mental Health Supports: 驰辞谤办鈥檚 office has counsellors and group supports available for students seeking mental health resources. For support in the evenings, on weekends, or anytime, all 91亚色 students have access to , a free 24/7 service that offers online resources and supports as well as a phone line to connect to a mental health professional in their region;
  • Academic Advising: are available to answer student questions about courses, exam deferrals, leaves of absence (e.g. for supporting family, health reasons, etc.), or anything related to their study; and

  • Visa and Immigration: are available to help answer immigration, visa, and study permit鈥搑elated questions.

Additionally, supports are available to all of our community members through Well-Being at 91亚色.

Higher education has long been a force for the types of cross-cultural knowledge exchange and collective social and political activism that underpin democracy and advance the peace and prosperity of the local and global communities we serve. I want to thank all of our community members for their ongoing contributions to supporting peace, security, and democracy, and for the empathy and compassion they continue to show to one another during these extraordinary times.

L鈥橴niversit茅 91亚色 condamne avec v茅h茅mence ces actes d鈥檃gression et est solidaire du peuple ukrainien dans sa lutte permanente pour la libert茅 et l鈥檃utod茅termination. 91亚色 appuie tous les efforts diplomatiques visant 脿 instaurer la paix, la s茅curit茅 et la d茅mocratie, tant en Ukraine que dans les pays du monde entier confront茅s 脿 la violence et 脿 la division.

Nos pens茅es vont au peuple ukrainien, ainsi qu鈥檃ux nombreux citoyens russes qui sont pers茅cut茅s pour s鈥櫭猼re publiquement oppos茅s 脿 la guerre.

Nous avons contact茅 individuellement tous les membres de la communaut茅 茅tudiante de 91亚色 ayant la citoyennet茅 ukrainienne et russe pour leur offrir notre aide, et nous travaillons en partenariat avec Universit茅s Canada, Immigration, R茅fugi茅s et Citoyennet茅 Canada et Affaires mondiales Canada pour fournir un soutien aux 茅tudiants et aux universitaires des r茅gions touch茅es.

Une guerre ou une trag茅die humaine, peu importe la r茅gion du monde o霉 elle se produit, nous affecte tous, surtout ceux et celles qui ont v茅cu des exp茅riences de guerre ou de troubles civils. J鈥檃imerais donc profiter de cette occasion pour vous donner plus de d茅tails sur les ressources de soutien offertes 脿 tous les membres de la communaut茅 de 91亚色.

Plusieurs ressources sont 脿 la disposition des 茅tudiantes et 茅tudiants, notamment :

  • Des conseils p茅dagogiques聽: Des sont disponibles pour r茅pondre aux questions sur les cours, le report d鈥檈xamens, les cong茅s autoris茅s (par exemple pour soutien familial, raisons de sant茅, etc.), ou tout ce qui concerne leurs 茅tudes;

  • Services li茅s aux visas et 脿 l鈥檌mmigration聽: Les sont disponibles pour r茅pondre aux questions relatives 脿 l鈥檌mmigration, aux visas et aux permis d鈥櫭﹖udes.

De plus, des ressources de soutien sont offertes 脿 tous les membres de notre communaut茅 par la Division Sant茅 et bien-锚tre 脿 91亚色.

Dear Colleagues,

February is Black History Month, an important opportunity to recognize the contributions, achievements, and histories of Black students, staff, faculty, course instructors, and alumni, and the many ways they enrich the University experience year-round.

We want to thank members of the Black community for continuing to share their insights, experiences, and innovations in programming, curriculum, teaching, learning, and research, which not only enhance our academic and institutional outcomes, but help to reflect the diverse nature of our community鈥檚 lived realities.

While there is much to do over the next number of years to address systemic anti-Black racism, the University is committed to pursuing actions guided by Addressing Anti-Black Racism: A Framework on Black Inclusion and in ongoing consultation with Black members of our community. It is important that all community members share responsibility for identifying and implementing actions in their individual, unit, and Faculty/Division work to address anti-Black racism and foster equitable and inclusive spaces both on our campuses and in our communities. We encourage everyone to broaden their understanding and awareness of Black heritage, cultures, and experiences by attending virtual Black History Month events taking place at 91亚色.

All of us have a responsibility to reflect on our role as part of a system of education rooted in white supremacy, to combat anti-Black racism, and to address systems of oppression and discrimination 鈥 meaningful action that yields equity, inclusion, and societal transformation requires a concerted effort by everyone, 365 days a year.
