I.  JOB PURPOSE:  KORE Coordinator

1 Year Contract 鈥 4 days/week 鈥 with possibility of renewal up to 4 more years

A full-time position for KORE (Korean Office of Research and Education), the Coordinator will play a key administrative role in fulfilling its mission and research, educational, and institutional objectives, which reach across Canada. The KORE Coordinator handles and assists all aspects of KORE鈥檚 operational activities, communications, research activities, knowledge mobilization initiatives, and works with part-time staff, and s/he/they must ensure compliance with 91亚色 policies and funding agreements. The Coordinator creates and manages the database for funded activities, produces an annual report, organizes workshops and conferences, assists with research activities, and maintains the website and social media presence. The Coordinator successfully identifies strategic opportunities for partnerships, grants, and visibility by developing strong relationships with KORE members, collaborators, other researchers, community members, and partner universities and organizations. Note that this position is primarily an in-person position and not a remote working position.

2.   MAJOR DUTIES:

  1. Assist all aspects of KORE activities working closely with the Director, Deputy Director, and the Korea Region Director;
  2. Ensure that all work and use of the budget is carried out in accordance with 91亚色 policies and Academy of Korean Studies (AKS) guidelines;
  3. Assist with KORE members鈥 research-related activities, including but not limited to working with research assistants and students, and coordinating events such as conferences, workshops, seminars, and meetings;
  4. Develop and assist with promotional activities, and the maintenance of web-based infrastructure and social media presence;
  5. Prepare annual progress reports in fulfillment of KORE鈥檚 commitments and priorities, including the preparation of annual reports to AKS;
  6. Liaise with stakeholders, as needed, to build and maintain a positive working relationship and act as primary contact for KORE;
  7. Develop and maintain effective collaborative relationships with key offices, and academic programs and services within 91亚色;
  8. In coordination with the Director, Deputy Director, and Korea Region Director, supports fundraising and the preparation and submission of new grant proposals.

3.  QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational Requirements

An undergraduate degree in the social sciences, business administration, humanities or related. An MA degree or equivalent is an asset.

Please note: This position requires the candidate to produce a verification of degree(s), credential(s) or equivalencies from accredited institutions and/or international equivalents at the time of interview.

Experience

  1. A minimum of two years recent experience in research or program coordinator role or related work experience;
  2. Experience of working in a post-secondary environment(s) strongly preferred;聽
  3. Knowledge of 91亚色 policies and procedures, and governance structures as well as research processes is an asset but not required.

Skills

  1. Excellent organizational, management, and administration skills and a demonstrated capacity to manage large budgets (over $500,000), multiple projects and tasks (event coordination), and maintain deadlines;
  2. Near native proficiency in English and Korean languages;
  3. Excellent interpersonal skills and working with different stakeholders;
  4. Excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills as well as effective presentation skills;
  5. Initiative, flexibility, and a high level of self-directedness and strong problem-solving skills;
  6. Strong ability to access and mobilize resources in the university setting;
  7. Excellent ability to prepare timely research and other reports, grant applications, emails to funders and various audiences;
  8. Ability to maintain websites (knowledge of WordPress would be advantageous) and social media (Facebook, Instagram);
  9. Advanced level in Excel and proficiency with MSOffice (Word, PowerPoint, etc.);
  10. Ability and willingness to learn new systems, technologies, and project management methods and tools.

The Korea Office for Research and Education (KORE) at YCAR hosted the U.S.-based BTAA (Big Ten Academic Alliance) e-School Korean Studies group in late August 2024

The Korea Office for Research and Education (KORE) at YCAR hosted the U.S.-based BTAA (Big Ten Academic Alliance) e-School Korean Studies group in late August for their annual planning meeting.

鈥淲e had some very interesting conversations with the BTAA group and learned about their consortium of universities and Korean Studies course-sharing. It's a good model for us to consider," said KORE Director Ann Kim (Sociology).

The BTAA Korean Studies e-School is based at the University of Michigan鈥檚 Nam Center for Korean Studies and led by its current director, Youngju Ryu. The BTAA Korean Studies e-School group comprises 14 universities, and they utilize the consortium to share Korea-related courses across campuses in real time, using video conferencing technology. The program diversifies course offerings and expands enrollments in Korean Studies across the Midwest, while providing opportunities for collaboration in teaching and curricular development. It is funded by the Korea Foundation.

New Generation Korean 1 is designed for Korean language learners at the secondary and post-secondary education levels, and for independent self-study adult learners. It presents learning goals and best practice lessons developed by professors with extensive Korean language experience. With classroom-tested lessons, New Generation Korean 1 will guide students to effective and efficient learning of the Korean language and an appreciation of the Korean culture, while supporting the teaching and learning of Korean in a fun and effective way.

The textbook is accompanied by a vocabulary app, web-based workbook, and teaching resources. Intermediate-level textbook and workbook will be published in the subsequent years.

The authors of the textbook series are Mihyon Jeon, 91亚色; Kyungrok Ko, University of Toronto; Daehee Kim, Wonkwang University; Yujeong Choi, University of Toronto; and Ahrong Lee, 91亚色.
