Are you interested in having a say about the development of 91亚色鈥檚 new Strategic Research Plan?

Join Robert Hach茅, vice-president research & innovation, as he conducts a series of workshops with University community members to probe values and perceptions聽regarding research at 91亚色.聽 The feedback and discussion arising from these workshops will be used to inform the Strategic Research Plan: 2013 鈥 2018.聽 All 91亚色 students, staff and faculty are invited to participate.

"These workshops are an important and valuable feedback tool in the construction of the new plan,鈥 said Robert Hach茅, vice-president research & innovation. 鈥淚 look forward to continuing the discussion with members of the 91亚色 community, as we shape the future of 91亚色 research together, and to 聽developing a new plan that each member of the 91亚色 research community can see themselves a part of.鈥

During the workshops, participants will be asked to share their hopes and concerns with respect to the new Strategic Research Plan, highlight what they feel are the current and future core research values for 91亚色 as an institution, provide their feedback on areas of research excellence and identify future areas for continuous improvement.聽 Participants will have an opportunity to share their thoughts in small groups and each group will present their feedback to the larger audience.

The workshops will be facilitated by Celia Haig-Brown, professor, Faculty of Education and Gary Miller, instructor,聽Schulich School of Business MBA program and the Schulich Executive Education Centre.

Vice-President Research & Innovation Robert Hach茅 officially launched a series of community consultations regarding a new Strategic Research Plan for the University at an open forum held last Tuesday at the Keele campus.

The community consultations are an important part of a process to develop the plan. More than 150 members of the 91亚色 community attended the open forum to discuss the plan that will articulate the priorities and vision for the聽future of 91亚色 research over the next five years. The open forum provided an opportunity for community members to learn more about consultation process and the goals for the plan.

In addition, there was a lively, open聽and engaging discussion that saw participants share their thoughts聽and聽concerns.聽聽

Among the comments聽offered by聽those present at the open forum was the aspiration that the new Strategic Research Plan would help improve 91亚色's research reputation. Participants articulated the need to develop a strategy that empowers researchers by providing them with appropriate opportunities to focus their attention on research. Many of those welcomed the transparency of the open consultation process, highlighted the need for inclusiveness in defining research areas and stressed the importance of equitable research support.聽

鈥91亚色's new Strategic Research Plan will help us achieve our vision of becoming a more recognized research intensive University 鈥 an ambition reflected in the White Paper and University Academic Plan,鈥 said Hach茅.聽聽

He explained that the goals of the consultation process are to engage the 91亚色 community in an open, collaborative and ongoing discussion about the University鈥檚 core research values to develop a plan that is meaningful to the community.

Hach茅 was joined in the open forum by 91亚色 President聽& Vice-Chancellor Mamdouh Shoukri, Strategic Research Plan Facilitators Celia Haig-Brown, who is a professor in the Faculty of Education, and Gary Miller, and instructor in the MBA program at the Schulich School of Business and Schulich Executive Education Centre, along with members of the .

As part of the ongoing nature of the consultation process, 91亚色 students, staff and faculty are invited to continue the discussion with Hach茅 through upcoming workshops and community chats. The workshops will seek to examine 91亚色鈥檚 core values with respect to research, understand perceptions and prioritize commitments to the support of research.聽
