She earned her PhD in Political Studies at Queen’s University, where her research addressed the long-standing question of why widespread development has remained elusive in resource-rich African states.

Her research broadly focuses on how resource governance can contribute to inclusive and sustainable development outcomes. She has a particular interest in state-business relations in mining, and how these dynamics shape institutional architectures and inform local economic development in resource-rich Africa.

Patricia’s current project evaluates local content policies and women entrepreneurship within critical minerals value chains in Ghana, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.
