Faculty associate publication on young Muslim women's experiences of eve-teasing in Kolkata slums: Kabita Chakraborty

 

In her new article, "Eve-Teasing and Education Mobility: Young Women鈥檚 Experiences in the Urban Slums of India",听 presents parts of her聽ongoing research detailing young Muslim people鈥檚 experiences of eve-teasing in the urban slums (bustees) of Kolkata (Calcutta), India. 聽The article focuses on how eve-teasing is an important marker in young people鈥檚 transition into the youth period in the bustees and how it curbs and expands young women鈥檚 mobility. 聽Chakraborty argues that a youth-centered perspective on the phenomenon of eve-teasing contributes a different understanding to public discussion from dominant narratives that focus on experiences of gender violence and mobility.
