Faculty Associate Publication | Myanmar: Contesting Conceptual Landscapes in the Politics of Buddhism

's new article, "Myanmar: Contesting Conceptual Landscapes in the Politics of Buddhism", published in the聽Kyoto Review of Southeast Asia,聽examines the rise of nationalist and anti-Muslim sentiments in constructions of Burmese Buddhist identities. 聽Turner uses examples of analyses of the聽MaBaTha to illustrate the limitations of viewing Buddhism and Burmese as fixed identities. 聽She suggests that such analytical frameworks limit the extent to which we can engage with inventions of Buddhism that are not defined by nation, race, or exclusion.
