The at YCAR hosted the U.S.-based BTAA e-School Korean Studies group in late August for their annual planning meeting.
“We had very interesting conversations with the BTAA group and learned a lot about their consortium of universities and Korean Studies course-sharing, said KORE Director Ann Kim (Sociology).
The BTAA Korean Studies e-School is based at the University of Michigan’s Nam Center for Korean Studies and led by its director, Youngju Ryu. , BTAA (Big Ten Academic Alliance) comprises 14 universities, and they utilize the consortium to share Korea-related courses across campuses in real time, using video conferencing technology. The program diversifies course offerings and expands enrollments in Korean studies across the Midwest, while providing opportunities for collaboration in teaching and curricular development. It is funded by the Korea Foundation and is in its eleventh year of operation.
Congrats to our Faculty Associates who received reductions in their course load from the Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Service Course Load Reduction Program to further 91ÑÇɫ’s commitment to fostering an inclusive academic environment that values the contributions of diverse voices. Lisa Davidson (Anthropology), Mehraneh Ebrahimi (English) and Radhika Mongia (Sociology) are among the eight recipients from across the university. Created as part of the 91ÑÇÉ« Faculty Association Collective Agreement, this initiative provides an annual fund of $100,000 to support service related to EDI by faculty members who self-identify as Indigenous and/or members of racialized groups. By reducing recipients’ course loads, the programs provide them with additional time to advance or implement aspects of 91ÑÇɫ’s Decolonizing, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (DEDI) Strategy.
