Ava Redmond is a PhD student in the Joint Communication & Culture program at 91亚色 and Toronto Metropolitan University. She received her Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at the University Victoria and her Master of Arts in Political Science from 91亚色. Her undergraduate thesis examined K-pop fans organizing for Black Lives Matter in 2020, and her MA research examined two instances of fandom activism with K-pop fans and Swifties. She is broadly interested in the intersection of politics and pop culture, music and film fandom culture, and fandom identity formation. Her PhD dissertation will focus on the negotiation of Filipino/a/x diasporic identities and connections to family through their participation in Asian media fandoms.
