A passionate community organizer and activist who holds an HBSc degree in Applied Mathematics and Statistics (91亚色) and is moved by daily injustices happening to his own communities and marginalized communities in Canada, the Philippines and worldwide, Francis鈥 (He/Him/Siya/Isuna) research will utilize a mixed-methods framework to better understand the general intergenerational downward mobility of Filipino/a/x youth at a local level (i.e., the Greater Toronto Area) through the lenses of racial capitalism and social reproduction. Throughout his research, Francis鈥 working knowledge of quantitative methods such as regression analysis and spatial analysis, and his proficiency in tools such as Python, R and QGIS will be complemented by his critical geographic thought and will use what he calls 鈥淟ife History Method through Filipino Storytelling (Kuwenthuhan)鈥 as his qualitative method. Beyond his working thesis, Francis hopes that, over the long-term, his ongoing contributions in academia and in the community will be part of an interconnected transnational research-policy-community nexus where academics, policymakers and community organizers from Canada and the Philippines work collaboratively on initiatives that address the material conditions of Filipinos in the homeland and abroad, based on the understanding that they are inseparable. Outside of academia and organizing, Francis loves to go to the gym, drawing, learn new things, making corny puns and dad jokes, and watching a lot of animal videos (his favourite animals are giant pandas and black cats) as well as watch the Toronto Maple Leafs lose over and over and over and over again.
