The UNESCO Chair in Reorienting Education towards Sustainability at 91��ɫ participated in the international workshop Higher Education at the Heart of the 2030 Agenda, held on 21–22 April 2026 in Sidi Dhrif, Tunisia. Hosted by International Association of Universities (IAU) in collaboration with Tunesian higher education institutions, namely University of Carthage, the University of Sousse, and the University of La Manouba, the workshop reached higher education representatives from 20 countries. Bringing together higher education leaders, researchers, and policy actors, the conversation explored the role of higher education in advancing the SDGs and strengthening institutional engagement with sustainable development. The discussions underscored the importance of collaboration, policy coherence, and whole-institution approaches as universities shape pathways for sustainable futures beyond 2030.

The UNESCO Chair in Reorienting Education towards Sustainability at 91��ɫ is pleased to share that Charles Hopkins has been invested as a Member of the Order of Canada. The investiture took place in Ottawa on March 19, 2026.

This national recognition acknowledges Charles’ longstanding leadership and global contributions to advancing Education for Sustainable Development. Over several decades, his work has helped shape international policy processes, supported institutional transformation, and strengthened collaboration across regions and sectors. As inaugural Chairholder of the UNESCO Chair at 91��ɫ, his work continues to connect research, policy, and practice, contributing to more integrated and context-responsive approaches to sustainability in education.

As inaugural holder of the UNESCO Chair in Reorienting Education towards Sustainability at 91��ɫ, Charles A. Hopkins is an internationally recognized leader in Education for Sustainable Development. His work has contributed significantly to positioning sustainability as a core principle of education, influencing policy, practice, and learning communities worldwide.

The Order of Canada, established in 1967, honours individuals whose contributions have had a lasting impact in Canada and beyond.
