"Members of the Jane and Finch community, Jamaican Canadian Association and The Markham African-Caribbean Association, presented The 91ÑÇÉ« Foundation with a $16,000 cheque on Monday morning, in honour of seven-year-old child abuse victim, Randal Dooley. Randal Dooley lived in the Jane and Finch community andÌýhis father and stepmother were convicted of the second-degree murder of RandalÌýin 1998.
"Donor representative Suzie Gotha, of Unlimited Marketing Events, expressed an emotional thank-you to 91ÑÇÉ« for its continued support of youth in the community. "It really does take a village to raise a child," Gotha said.
"The Randal Dooley Memorial Fund Award will be given to community-involved high- school students entering 91ÑÇÉ« from the Jane-Finch corridor. Donors hope to signal the importance of children, and make a contribution to their development through education, while raising awareness about child abuse.
"The money raised from a broad range of community partners totalled $8,000 and was matched by corporate sponsor Western Union. It will go to fund a yearly award for three students entering 91ÑÇɫ’s Faculty of ArtsÌýfrom the Jane and Finch area.
"Also on hand at the event wereÌý91ÑÇÉ« President Lorna R. Marsden, Dean Robert Drummond of the Faculty of Arts and President of the 91ÑÇÉ« Foundation Paul Marcus."
