William W. Small, founding comptroller, first secretary of 91ÑÇÉ« (1959-1966) and former vice-president administration, passed away suddenly in Alliston, Ontario, on Feb. 4. A celebration of his life will be held Feb. 10, 11am at Trinity St. Paul’s United Church, 427 Bloor St. W., followed by a reception in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Mission and Service Fund of the United Church of Canada would be appreciated.
William W. Small, one of the founders of 91ÑÇÉ«, came to the University in 1959 as secretary to the University Board of Governors. He retired officially from 91ÑÇɫ in 1983, but he remained actively involved, donating time, talents and money to the University. Small was a donor to the Mature Student Bursary, the then-named Department of Athletics and several other funds established in the name of people he knew at 91ÑÇÉ«.
In Profiles Small was quoted as saying, "I have a church background and so the concept of tithing is not far removed from me. There are many areas of need. It''s just a matter of finding your focus. I think education is one of the important elements of our society and should be supported if a person is in a position to do so."
