91ÑÇÉ« and the double cohort -- the whole picture

Vice-President Academic Sheila Embleton commented Friday that some media coverage of the double cohort issue -- suggesting that 91ÑÇÉ«'s student acceptances exceeded places available -- has painted an inaccurate picture of the situation.

"The number of school leavers who accepted 91ÑÇÉ«'s offer of admission is, as you would expect, higher than we have experienced in the past," she said. "However, these numbers are within the acceptable ranges of our planning given the total number of spaces available. It is important to remember that school leavers are just one component of the total admissions number. Other groups include mature students, international students, students transferring from other universities and colleges and students who do not enter university direct from high school.

"All this is to say that the final admissions number will be managed in the same way as it always has been: to meet the overall enrolment target for the University. When you think of it, in the most competitive admissions environment in recent history, more school leavers than ever before have chosen 91ÑÇÉ« over all the other Ontario Universities. This is something we at 91ÑÇÉ« can be proud of."
