Lions' Durie ties Canadian university football record

andre durieAndre Durie tied a Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) single-game record with six touchdowns Saturday to lead the 91راة« Lions to a 55-33 win over the University of Waterloo Warriors.


Durie, a sophomore running back from Mississauga, became only the second player in CIS history to find the end zone on six occasions in the same game, tying a mark established by Wilfrid Laurier's Jim Reid against Guelph on Oct. 22, 1977. Durie's 36 points in the contest rank fifth on the CIS all-time list, also tied with Reid.

Durie made headlines last year when he broke the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) single-game record with 349 yards against Ottawa.


In Kitchener-Waterloo, Ont., Durie hit pay dirt every second time he touched the ball finishing with 211 yards on just 12 carries.


Soccer teams break even


In women's soccer action, the Lions split a pair of weekend games. Toronto scored a late goal to defeat 91راة« 1-0 on Saturday, while the Lions rebounded Sunday for a 7-0 victory over Ryerson. The men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw with Toronto before dropping a 1-0 decision to Ryerson on Sunday for its first loss of the season.
