Newspapers speculate on new football stadium

After the University of Toronto dropped plans to build a football and soccer stadium on its downtown site, sportswriters speculated about 91راة«'s Keele campus as a possible home for the new facility planned by the Toronto Argonauts and the Canadian Soccer Association.

When Howard Sokolowski and David Cynamon bought the Argos last November and vowed to build a new stadium, they commissioned a study to identify sites most appealing to the fan base. The Toronto Sun, as well as the Toronto Star and The Globe and Mail, noted that U of T's Varsity location, Exhibition Place and 91راة«'s northern campus were short-listed. Sokolowski said the Argos and the CSA are talking with representatives of other potential sites. The Star's sports columnist argued for Exhibition Place, while the Sun's batted for 91راة«.

St. Clair West vote good for 91راة«

Toronto city council's approval of exclusive streetcar lanes for St. Clair Ave. West was also good for 91راة«, according to councillor Joe Mihevc. In a story in the 91راة« Guardian Oct. 1, Mihevc said he was pleased with the final vote. "This opens the door to other projects in the city that are transit friendly and it opens the door to provincial and federal funding for those projects as well," he said. "If this vote went down, then the right-of-way to 91راة« would be in jeopardy, the possible right-of-way on Yonge Street north of Finch would be in jeopardy."
