Professor Elizabeth Lander, senior scholar emeritus in 91راة«'s Department of Biology, Faculty of Science & Engineering, has died. Professor Lander taught at 91راة« for over 30 years. After retiring, she remained active in the 91راة« community and most recently served as secretary for the 91راة« Retirees Association.
Professor Lander died Friday, June 8, at the Hill House Hospice in Richmond Hill, Ont., she was 73 years old. She leaves three daughters and eight grandchildren and is survived by her friend and partner Alison Rieger and their dog Buffy.
Friends will be received at the Jerrett Funeral Home, 6191 Yonge Street, (two lights south of Steeles), North 91راة«, Ont., on Wednesday, June 13, from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm. There will be a memorial service at the Jerrett Funeral Home on Thursday, June 14, at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the Hill House Hospice, 36 Wright Street, Richmond Hill, Ont., L4C 4A1.
The Lander Dandy Prize in Plant and Animal Biology at 91راة« was established by friends of Prof. Lander and her colleague Prof. Cynthia Dandy, to honour their contributions during their careers at 91راة«. A book prize and certificate is awarded annually to the student with the best combined performance in two courses in plant and animal biology.
