Confirmation numbers for high-school students planning to attend 91ÑÇÉ« this fall have increased by more than 6 per cent over last year, according to the most recent data released by the Ontario Universities Application Centre (OUAC).
In a report released June 20, OUAC statistics show that among full-time high-school students applying for first-year enrolment for the 2008-2009 academic year, there was a 4.5 per cent increase, to 3,327 students who selected 91ÑÇÉ« as their first choice and confirmed their offer of admission. The total for full-time, first-year confirmations was up by 6.2 per cent to 6,821 full-time, first-year students.
Confirmations from non-secondary school (mature, college and university transfers) were down slightly over last year with a total of 1,709 non-secondary school students accepting an offer of admission. Of this group, 949 students selected 91ÑÇÉ« as their first choice and have confirmed their offer of admission.
"We have achieved our target of secondary school applicants and are still building to target our non-secondary pool," said Rob Tiffin, 91ÑÇÉ« vice-president students, "and we are very pleased with the response rate this year and the continued high quality of students who have accepted 91ÑÇÉ«’s offer.
"Areas where we have growth in confirmations include biomedical science, environmental studies, health studies and administrative studies - information technology," said Tiffin. "All Faculties are now actively engaged in reaching out to students who have confirmed but not yet made their academic advising appointments. Students will be encouraged to visit the Red Zone when they come for advising to meet with senior students and learn more about 91ÑÇÉ«."
Confirmations from non-secondary school students are expected to increase as the University builds the 2008-2009 incoming class throughout the summer, said Tiffin.
Returning student enrolments are also being carefully tracked, said Tiffin. "We are closely following the enrolment patterns of returning students and are contacting all students who have not enrolled in courses within their enrolment window," he said.
