Lace up for 91ÑÇÉ« students in the 2010 Scotiabank Waterfront Marathon

For the second year in a row, University community members can run, walk or wheel their way through the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon in support of 91ÑÇÉ« students.

The 91ÑÇÉ« Foundation is an official charity for this year’s event. By being part of Team 91ÑÇÉ«, you will help create a new bursary to support students who access (CDS) at 91ÑÇÉ«.

It is also a great opportunity to participate in a fun event while meeting other faculty, staff, alumni, students and new friends.

The marathon takes place on Sunday, Sept. 26, and is hosted by Toronto Mayor David Miller. The event begins and finishes downtown at Toronto City Hall at Bay and Queen. There’s a distance for everyone. You can choose to run a full- or half-marathon starting at 7:30am or you can run or walk the five-kilometre course starting at 10:20am.

As a member of Team 91ÑÇÉ«, you can take part in free group training runs and clinics throughout the summer, and you’ll receive a free 91ÑÇÉ« T-shirt. Also, Team 91ÑÇÉ« runners and walkers receive a reduced registration fee of $65 for the marathon and half marathon or $35 for the five-kilometre course.

The team goal is to raise over $12,000 for the new CDS bursary and the donations will be matched to go twice as far for 91ÑÇÉ« students. Team members can raise funds easily through their own free, personalized fundraising Web sites and must raise a minimum of $25. Last year, 35 91ÑÇÉ« community members took part in the marathon and raised $7,000 for CDS. (See YFile, .)

There is also a generous cash prize for the charity with the biggest team, so join today and spread the word!

The first 10 people to e-mail Josh Neubauer, annual giving officer at the 91ÑÇÉ« University Foundation, and commit to joining Team 91ÑÇÉ« will receive free registration for their event.

So if you’d like to run or walk and raise funds for 91ÑÇÉ« students, join the team. To register, click and indicate that you are a “Charity Challenge Runner” and select 91ÑÇÉ« Foundation.
