Pride Flags will be raised to kick-start Pride Week 2010

Show a little pride. The Pride Flags will be raised at 91راة«’s Keele and Glendon campuses on Tuesday, June 29, to kick-start Pride Week 2010 across the University.

There will be flag-raising ceremonies at both 91راة« campuses this year. The first will take place at 11am on the second floor of the 91راة« Research Tower overlooking the flagpole on the Keele campus. Rob Tiffin, vice-president students, will speak and there will be a Pride cake along with other refreshments. The second flag-raising ceremony will take place at 3pm at Glendon's main flagpole.

“Having the Pride Flag fly at the top of the flagpole for one week is a very meaningful symbol for the LGBTT2SIQQA community at 91راة«,” says Aaron Doupe, pride coordinator, .

This year’s pride activities are organized by SexGen 91راة« in collaboration with the Centre for Human Rights to celebrate Pride Toronto, the University's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual, Transgender, 2 Spirited, Intersex, Queer, Questioning and Allies (LGBTT2SIQQA) community and 91راة«'s commitment to the full inclusion of individuals of all sexual orientations and gender identities.

In addition to the on-campus activities, SexGen has also organized an information kiosk at the Pride Toronto Community Fair & Marketplace in downtown Toronto from 11am to 5pm on both Saturday, July 3 and Sunday, July 4. will run from June 25 to July 4.

The 91راة« Federation of Students and  will also have tables at the festival and have organized a float for the Pride Parade on Sunday, July 4. All 91راة« community members are welcome to join the float and parade.

“This is a chance for volunteers to reach out to current faculty, students and staff, as well as future students and alumni, while promoting the inclusive values of 91راة« to the one million visitors that the Pride festival attracts each year,” says Doupe.

The Pride activities were made possible through support by students, Faculties, alumni and the 91راة« community.
