Everyone in the 91ÑÇÉ« community is invited to participate in the annual Arbour Day event, which will take place this year on Thursday, Oct. 21, from 1 to 3:30pm. 91ÑÇÉ«’s tree huggers invite you to come out, get involved, plant a tree, shrub or perennial flower and do something good for 91ÑÇÉ«, and something great for our environment.
Sponsored by the 91ÑÇÉ« Bookstore from proceeds of the five-cent charge for plastic shopping bags, this year’s event will include a ceremonial tree planting and presentations at 3pm at a location near Stong Pond. Volunteers should meet organizers at the traffic circle west of Calumet College, east of the intersection at The Pond Road and Shoreham Drive.
“The 91ÑÇÉ« Bookstore is pleased to sponsor 91ÑÇÉ«’s Arbour day with the use of funds collected from plastic bags,” said Steven Glassman, director of bookstore & printing services. “The plantings will improve our local environment, both for water and soil conservation in the wetland around Stong Pond, and for improved air quality through the tree plantings in the Arboretum.”
Organizers advise everyone to come prepared with appropriate clothing and footwear. The event will proceed rain or shine, with equipment and tools provided by the 91ÑÇÉ« Grounds Section.
