Next 91ÑÇÉ«-Noor lecture looks at Islamic natural law

University of Toronto law Professor Anver Emon will deliver two talks as part of the 2010-2011 91ÑÇÉ«-Noor Lecture Series: Recent Publications on Islam and Muslim Societies.

The first lecture, "Islamic Natural Law Theories and After", will take place Sunday, March 13, from 3 to 5pm at the Noor Cultural Centre, 123 Wynford Dr. (Don Valley Parkway and Eglinton Avenue) in Toronto.

The second, "Islamic Natural Law Theories: Theologies of Reason, Philosophies of Law", will take place Monday, March 14 from 11:30 to 2:30pm in the Vanier Senior Common Room, 010 Vanier College, Keele campus.

Emon's research focuses on premodern and modern Islamic legal history and theory; premodern modes of governance and adjudication; and the role of Sharia both inside and outside the Muslim world.

The author of Islamic Natural Law Theories (Oxford University Press, 2010), is the founding editor of , sits on the editorial board of  and is the general editor of the forthcoming Oxford Series in Islamic Legal Studies from Oxford University Press.
